Carter was a lawyer when he visited LA to meet his brother Marcus, who was adopted by the Forrester family. Marcus introduced Carter to his wife, Dayzee. After helping Dayzee locate Maya Avant's long-lost baby, Carter landed a job at Forrester Creations.
He worked as a patent attorney and on other legal issues besides Forrester Creations. He officiated marriages, represented Sally Spectra, and helped Steffy adopt Phoebe. Carter dated Maya Avant, followed by Zoe
The Bold and the Beautiful audience found Zoe flitting between him and Zende. This leaves Carter angry, and he breaks up with her. Wanting to apologize and wishing to get another chance, Zoe sought Quinn Fuller's help. But the latter got interested in Carter. They carried an affair in secret as Carter proposed to Zoe, and Quinn was set for a vow renewal with Eric.
Despite getting exposed, the duo continued their affair, particularly after a secret arrangement with Eric. Carter tried to move away from Quinn and tried dating Katie, followed by Paris. With the latter, her mother, Grace Buckingham, forbade him from spoiling Paris's life.
