General Hospital, ABC’s longest-running soap opera, has been airing since April 1, 1963. Kelly Monaco, who has played Samantha McCall since October 1, 2003, will soon be leaving the show. Kelly Monaco was born on May 23, 1976, in Philadelphia to Albert Monaco and Carmina Monaco who moved to Poconos as she grew up. The couple has five daughters and Kelly is the middle child. She did her schooling at Pocono Mountain High School where she took her first acting class.
Kelly used to work as a lifeguard at a local resort after her school hours and during this time she met Mike Gonzalez, with whom she was in a relationship for over 18 years until the couple broke up in 2009. They both were together from the junior school and worked together at the resort.
Kelly attended Northampton Community College for 2 years where she completed her studies and moved on to follow her passion for modeling and acting.
Kelly Monaco’s acting career explored
Kelly Monaco got her first big role in the television series Baywatch from 1997 to 1998. She appeared in the drama series as the model flying Kite, the model at the Photoshoot, and Rookie Lifeguard Susan in the episodes The Choice, Quarantine, and Diabolique.
In 2000, Kelly got the role of Livvie Locke in the television series Port Charles, which she played between July 7, 2000 and October 3, 2003. During this time, Kelly also played the role of Tess Ramsey (the good half of Livvie when Caleb separated her into two people) on the daytime show from October 1, 2002, to March 25, 2003.
Kelly Monaco joined General Hospital as Sam in 2003 and will exit the show this fall when her character is killed off. In this duration, Kelly also played Alicia Montenegro between July and August 2005.
Kelly Monaco has also appeared in several television reality shows including Dancing with the Stars (2005 and 2012), and Dirty Soap (2011).
Kelly has earned two Daytime Emmy nominations for her roles in Port Charles as Livvie for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series (2003), and General Hospital as Sam, for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (2006).
When Kelly started working, she wanted to pursue a career in modeling. She got selected as a Playboy model and throughout her tenure with the magazine in the 1990s, Monaco was featured in many special editions of the publication.
