Maggie Horton is one of the oldest characters in Days of Our Lives. American actress Suzanne Rogers has been playing the part since its introduction in 1973. She celebrated her milestone anniversary as Maggie on August 28, 2024.

Maggie Horton is estimated to be around 77 years old on the show. Introduced as a 26-year-old farm girl in the storyline in 1973, Maggie has remained on the show for 51 years now. The character has become an important part of the Horton and Kiriakis families.

In Days of Our Lives, Maggie Simmons is introduced as a woman who lives on a farm and works there for her livelihood. Maggie is crippled and unable to walk as a result of a childhood accident. Her parents had also been killed in this tragic event, leaving Maggie alone in the world.

Maggie meets Mickey Horton when he comes across her farm in a weak condition and in need of shelter and food. She takes him in and nurses him back to health. With Mickey's help, Maggie then starts to look for medical procedures that could help her get her walking ability back.

She gets operated on by Bill Horton to no avail but is later informed that her paralysis is also a bit psychological, not just physical. She later manages to walk again after her wedding.

Maggie ties the knot with Mickey in 1975. During her marriage, Maggie faces issues of jealousy due to Mickey's ex, Linda, and Joanna, her adoptive daughter's biological mother. Joanna even briefly takes her daughter Janice away before she is returned to Mickey and Maggie.

In Days of Our Lives, Maggie also struggles with alcohol abuse and joins the Alcoholics Anonymous support group. Later, she unknowingly sells cocaine at her niece Julie's shop and gets into a tiff with a drug dealer. When the dealer comes looking for her, Maggie shoots him with his own gun.

In another sequence, Maggie becomes a surrogate mother for Evan Whyland's baby but starts a custody battle for the parentage of the child. She wins the suit in court and her daughter Sarah Horton is born in 1981.

In 1983, Mickey and Maggie go through a divorce after Mickey's friend Don professes his feelings for Maggie. However, the couple manages to reunite in 1984 after Maggie helps Mickey heal from a shot wound. They get hitched again in a double wedding with Melissa Anderson and Pete Jannings.

Later, Maggie is diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis. This sequence mirrors the actress Suzanne Rogers' personal struggle with the ailment in real life. Maggie later goes into remission and obtains treatment for the disorder.

In one of the show's sequences in 2003, Maggie is briefly presumed dead when a serial killer starts terrorizing Salem city. The supposed victims are discovered to be alive on Melaswen Island the following year.

Maggie faces a huge loss as her husband Mickey dies of a heart attack in one of the episodes in 2010. Shortly after, her mother-in-law Alice Horton also passes away, making Maggie the head of the Horton household.

In 2011, Maggie develops a close friendship with Victor Kiriakis, which results in their eventual love and marriage. However, she maintains her connection with the Hortons too. In August 2023, Maggie loses Victor as well when his plane crashes into the Mediterranean Sea.

Maggie continues to live in Salem city and is an active part of the Kiriakis and Horton families. She is currently involved in taking down Konstantin with characters namely, John Black, and Marlena Evans. Konstantin is a conman who nearly tricked Maggie into marrying him. She almost signs a prenup before John reveals the subterfuge and they work together to confront him at the farce wedding.
