However, his stepfather Jack Abbott is the major father figure in Nick's life. As per the Newman family tradition, Nick goes to boarding school and returns to Genoa City in 1994 as a teenager.

On his return, he falls in love with Sharon Collins, and the two start dating. The two get married and welcome their first child, Noah Newman, into the world. One of Sharon's friends, Grace Turner, tracks down Sharon's long-lost daughter Cassie. Nick is eventually named her official parent too after he and Sharon take custody of Cassie.

Nick and Sharon face a few difficult phases in their marriage, including cheating on each other at various points, but they always reunite.
