A new character on The Bold and the Beautiful has left both fans and characters in the soap opera coming to different conclusions regarding Sheila Carter’s death. Deacon Sharpe's discoveries point to an entirely different story in what seemed to be a straightforward case of Steffy Forrester defending herself from her mother-in-law.

In the ongoing storyline of The Bold and the Beautiful, Deacon’s investigations suggest that Sheila may still be alive. During his visit to the crematorium to witness Sheila's cremation, Deacon noticed that the corpse had all ten toes. In her most recent attempt to fake her death (by bear attack) in 2022, Sheila had cut off one of her toes.

Subsequent snooping led him to messages between Sheila, before her apparent death, and an unknown person that Sheila referred to as Sugar. In the most recent episodes, despite all the doubts cast by Steffy and her daughter, Hope, her meeting with Lauren Fenmore seems to be proving her Sheila theories right.

Deacon’s fixation with Sheila’s death on The Bold and the Beautiful

It all started when Sean Kanan’s character, Deacon Sharpe, visited his on-and-off flame Sheila at the crematorium. While saying his final goodbye, he noticed that Sheila’s corpse had all ten digits on her legs. This contradicted what he knew.

In The Bold and the Beautiful storyline from 2022, Sheila, managing to escape arrest, fabricated a bear-related death by sacrificing one of her toes, and attacked her son Finn's adoptive mother, Li Nozawa (Naomi Matsuda). She also managed to trick and seduce Deacon.

Even with Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and Liam (Scott Clifton) being convinced her knife struck Sheila dead, Deacon continued on his hunch: Sheila’s still alive. While searching for clues to prove his theories, especially to Hope (Annika Noelle) who thinks her father is losing his mind, he finds Sheila’s chats.

Messages from an unknown sender referred to as Sugar by Sheila intrigue Deacon enough to call upon an old adversary of Sheila’s from her days on The Young and the Restless — Tracey Bregman’s Lauren Fenmore.

Lauren reveals Sheila’s secret doppelgänger

Deacon and Lauren discuss the former’s suspicions, with the latter revealing her knowledge of a person with that name who bore a striking resemblance to Sheila. She explains that Sugar's true identity came to light when she attacked her son, Scott Grainger.

Lauren visited her in prison and noticed although the attacker resembled her, she lacked Sheila's distinctive limp, and her fingerprints didn't match either. Sugar had then confessed to her animosity towards the real Sheila.

It was revealed to viewers that Sheila had tricked Sugar into plastic surgery to look like her. Subsequently, Sheila set Sugar up to be the victim of her own crimes, and as a result, Sugar was put in jail initially, explaining the bad blood between the two.

Who is Sugar?

Sugar a.k.a. Janet Webber was a prison warden before aiding Sheila in her escape and Ridge Forrester’s kidnapping in The Bold and the Beautiful storyline from 2003. Portrayed by Robin Mattson, the character had managed to escape arrest and imprisonment with Sheila.

She resurfaced in the 2006 storyline, involving the attempt on the life of the aforementioned Scott Grainger, being portrayed by Kimberlin Brown, explaining the doppelgänger effect. This has caused many to speculate that the person seen dying at the hands of Steffy might have been Sugar.

Viewers can watch the latest episodes of The Bold and the Beautiful on Paramount+ and CBS.
