Johnny Wactor, an actor many enjoyed watching on General Hospital, was shot to death in Los Angeles by some people who were trying to steal the catalytic converter from his car. Anita Joy, who used to work with Wactor at Level 8 nightclub, shared what happened in Johnny Wactor's last moments.
During an exclusive interview with ET's Kevin Frazier on May 30, 2024, Joy talked about the final times she spent with Wactor just before he was tragically shot. He was only 37 years old when he passed away. Recalling her response to Wactor being shot, Anita said:
"I am... screaming my head off for help."
Joy, who was good friends with Wactor for eight years, went on Instagram to share the story of that terrible night. She felt like she needed to tell people what happened to her friend, saying,
"I am his voice now because otherwise he would have possibly been alone and he wasn't."
General Hospital: Anita Joy speaks about Johnny Wactor’s last moments
Johnny Wactor and Anita Joy were leaving their bartending shift, walking to their cars in downtown Los Angeles, when they encountered armed robbers. The attackers were in the process of stealing Wactor's catalytic converter.
Despite the danger, Wactor confronted them, calmly stating that it was his car, and requested they leave. Joy describes this moment with clarity,
"We were no threat and Johnny kept his cool as he always did, simply stating that it was his car and for them to leave. Hands open to his sides in peace."
As the situation escalated, Wactor positioned himself between Joy and the aggressor, a decision that ultimately led to him being shot. Joy recounts the harrowing moment,
"As I heard the shot ring into the night, he forcefully tumbled back into my arms and as I grabbed for him, I shouted, ‘Hunny you ok?!’ And he only responded ‘Nope! Shot!’"
In those frantic moments, Joy screamed for help while attempting to stem the bleeding. In his final moments, Wactor could barely speak. Joy cried out to him, asking him to stay with her. She recalled in the interview,
"I was screaming at him to stay with me and that I love him"
The aftermath of Wactor's death has left a void among his friends, family, and fans. Joy's narrative not only serves as a testament to Wactor's character but also as a call to action for justice.
"My friend of 8 years went from laughing together, working side by side... to him dying in my arms," Anita wrote.
