"I’m so angry” — General Hospital fans react as Carly star Laura Wright addresses Michael’s departure from the soap

General Hospital is presenting another unexpected twist in the storyline with Michael Corinthos' fire accident. On one hand, the story arc lays out the exit plot for Michael actor, Chad Duell, while on the other it teases Sonny's as-yet-unknown enemy trying to kill him. The arc may bring out Michael's mother from the backburner and position her against Michael's cheating wife, Willow.

However, the soap's fans have not taken kindly to Michael's distressing story arc. For one, many fans believe he deserved better after being treated badly by his cheating wife. Moreover, the trauma of being burned in fire seemed agonizing for most fans.

One viewer identifying as Ronnie Angelo Jr., took to X (formerly Twitter) to comment:

"I'm so angry with GH. We lose a great actor/character with Michael and get stuck with Willow and Drew?"

Ronnie was replying to Laura Wright, who plays Carly Spencer-Corinthos. Laura posted on her Twitter handle that she was proud of their story and work.

General Hospital: A glance at Michael's exit plot that disheartened fans

The General Hospital episode of Monday, January 6, 2025, found Michael Corinthos visiting his father, Sonny, to inform him about his decision to proceed with divorce. This came in the wake of the revelation of Michael's wife, Willow's affair with Drew Quartermaine. As Jason Morgan came in to talk to Sonny, Michael offered to leave.

However, Jason Morgan and Sonny Corinthos stepped out into the hall to discuss business, while Michael stayed back in his father's penthouse. Soon an explosion spread fire across Sonny's penthouse. Michael got caught in the fire unable to escape. As a burning Michael moved around the room, Jason stopped Sonny from rushing in to save his son.

Instead, Jason pushed Sonny out of the penthouse, asking him to call 911. The raging fire likely injured Michael with a high percentage of burns from which he is not likely to come out unscathed.

How will Laura Wright's character likely be affected by Michael's burning?

Laura Wright plays Carly Spencer-Corinthos, Michael's mother, on General Hospital. Recently she was seen worried about Michael's broken marriage after Willow's affair was exposed by Tracy Quartermaine. Carly tried to comfort Michael while astutely interrupting Nina and Willow's plan to flee with Michael's kids.

However, she would expectedly be devastated to learn about Michael's tragedy. It is likely that her best friend, Jason Morgan, would give her the distressing news, while also providing a shoulder to lean on. Carly may reconnect with Sonny as the duo grieve over their son's mishap. She may urge Sonny to dig out the real culprit.

On the other side, Carly's misery may change into angst over Willow's actions. She may focus all her anger towards Willow on the General Hospital plot. Presuming that Willow Corinthos would now have complete custody of Michael's children, Carly may challenge Willow and demand to fight for custody in court.

She may also find herself in a dilemma about Nina, another of Sonny's former wives and Willow's mother if Sonny collaborates with Nina. While she would want to support all of Sonny's decisions, his association with Nina may annoy Carly.
