General Hospital's Alison Rogers, also known as Blaze, has exited the soap in the August 13 episode. The character has been sent off on a music concert tour for her career and will not be seen in Port Charles in the long run.
The current plot dynamics of the show brought a lot of drama into Blaze's path. Just as she had a heated conversation with her mother about accepting her identity, Blaze's girlfriend Kristina fell into the Metro Court pool.
After this when Kristina lost her baby, she was struck by grief and broke up with Blaze. This pushed the character into accepting a record deal and going on a music tour.
Why is Blaze leaving the soap?
The writers' decision to remove Blaze's character from General Hospital came as a surprise to audiences. Not just to fans, actress Jacqueline Grace Lopez was taken aback by the decision too.
On August 14, Lopez posted on Instagram reflecting on the decision and how she felt when she heard of it.
"Not gonna lie, this goodbye hurts. I think because I didn’t see it coming. That and when you spend almost two years with this group, you start to feel like part of the fabric ... This cast and crew work so hard and have taught me so much," Lopez wrote.
Lopez debuted as Blaze in 2022. Initially, her role was supposed to be a brief 10-episode stint but morphed into a longer partnership after that. Her character also got into a relationship with Kristina, and the lesbian relationship brought representation to the show.
However, Blaze's exit from the General Hospital happened after her breakup with Kristina. The newly bereaved mother believed that she was too much of a mess to love. In that emotional state, while mourning her lost baby, Kristina and Blaze parted ways.
Blaze's relationship with her mother Natalia also worsened in the process. Before leaving, she confronted her mother and informed her of the breakup, reminding her how Natalia hadn't been supportive of her own daughter in the process.
What will the story be on General Hospital in the coming week?
In this week on General Hospital, the story has been focused primarily on Kristina's loss. Since the baby was TJ and Molly's surrogate child too, even they have been lost in grief. Molly even confronted Sonny on the matter, claiming that it was his fault Kristina suffered her accident.
The storyline is now moving towards an ultimate showdown between Ava and Sonny. It was Ava who accidentally pushed Kristina out the window from where she fell into the pool. Ava also had an ongoing legal dispute with Sonny before this accident. Both parties are now out for blood.
With Ava's interrogation and constant schemes, the plot dynamics could go either way. Fans are speculating on Ava's fate: whether she will finally suffer a prison sentence or manage to weasel out of a tight spot yet again. This remains to be seen in upcoming episodes.
