The Young and the Restless is an American television daily soap opera that's still ongoing even after 50 years of its release. The show premiered on CBS on March 26, 1973, and has launched various actors over its long run.
One of the characters on the show, Cameron Kirsten was killed off in June 2023. However, at the end of the episode, which premiered on August 1, 2024. Cameron was seen alongside Sharon. Linden Ashby who plays Cameron on the show said in an exclusive interview with TV Insider on August 1:
“It’s great because it’s not back from the dead. It’s not a ghost. It’s a person who is living in Sharon’s head and is aware that he’s living in her head and aware that he doesn’t exist. And that adds a huge wrinkle.”
He also mentioned that he is thrilled to be back. In The Young and the Restless, he returns as Cameron but will be seen in Sharon's imagination navigating her to face challenges she is afraid of.
The Young and the Restless: Cameron's storyline
Cameron is a recurring character on the show portrayed by Linden Ashby. He made his first appearance on the show on November 21, 2003. The character brings intensity, and mystery to the storyline of The Young and the Restless. Cameron is one of the renowned villains of the daily soap opera.
The character enters the show as a wealthy businessman with a dark past. Before coming to Genoa City he and Sharon were shown getting physically intimate in Denver. Followed by which, Cameron gets obsessed with Sharon and starts terrorizing her. This brings his manipulative, abusive, and controlling side to light.
As the drama continues, Cameron insists Sharon meet him after the New Year's Eve party. As they meet, she makes it clear that they cannot be together but Cameron gets angry and starts beating her. In Defense, she takes a champagne bottle, crashes it on his head, and leaves thinking that he died.
However, Cameron is still alive and plans to seek revenge. It leads to a sequence of episodes where he appears in front of Sharon, making her think it's a hallucination. He is later arrested for the murder of Frank Barritt and other crimes.
Thereafter, Cameron gets released from jail, flies to LA, and starts dating a woman who resembles Sharon. But due to abuse, he is sent to prison again. He gets released in 2022 in the show.
After 20 years, he returns to Genoa City and starts stalking Sharon and kidnaps Faith. Sharon comes in search of her and begs him to Faith. With no choice left, she stabs a knife in his chest, marking his departure from the show on June 19, 2023.
On August 1, 2024, Cameron appeared on the show but as an imagination of Sharon. However, Sharon is taking her new bipolar medication on time but the terror of Cameron, who is presumed dead, is terrifying to her.
The Young and the Restless: Linden Ashby returns on the set
On August 1, 2024, in an exclusive interview with TV Insider, the actor was asked whether he thought he would be back in The Young and the Restless, he replied:
“No, I mean, I was dead.”
Further, he added that when the show reached out to him, he was intrigued by the idea of a comeback and he gets to portray a different version of his alter ego. He continued:
“The abusive parts are gone, I don’t think he has the same level of threat that he did in real life. It’s Sharon’s idea of Cameron. He’s a manifestation of her internal world, to help her give voice to things that she’s afraid to say out loud, things she’s afraid to do."
He also mentioned that Cameron will now encourage Sharon to do things she is afraid of. The actor said:
"It’s not quite what Cameron would do, but who know knows what Cameron would do—it’s what Sharon believes Cameron would do.”
Linden Ashby says Cameron might stick to the city for a long time. No one knows what's the fate of his character on the show. However, fans are immensely shocked and excited to see the villain back on the show.
