Jagger Cates's fate on General Hospital has come into question due to the character apparently getting killed off by Sonny Corinthos. This development has caused many fans to speculate that Jagger may have met his end for good.
While Jagger's death was shown pretty unambiguously onscreen, with actor Adam J. Harrington seemingly referencing his departure on social media, it remains to be seen if the soap will retcon this event somewhere down the line. However, the upcoming week will make Cates' fate clear on the show.
Jagger has pursued a vendetta against Sonny Corinthos because of Sonny's treatment of his late wife, Karen Wexler. Sonny's relationship with Karen was defined by drug abuse and deeply questionable conduct on Sonny's part, which fueled Jagger's resentment of him.
But what seemingly cost Jagger his life was harassing Sonny's daughter, Kristina, to get to him. His vendetta reached a new extreme when he tried to have her jailed on charges of assault and murder for the death of her unborn child, despite her innocence. When he gloated about this to Sonny, the mobster finally decided to do his own dirty work and personally shot Jagger dead.
Jagger Cates was shot dead by Sonny Corinthos in General Hospital
Jagger Cates met his end at General Hospital due to the extremes he went to in going after Sonny Corinthos. Matters came to a head when he tried charging Kristina for the death of her own unborn child, despite the fact that he knew the baby's death was accidental.
Jagger had already tipped his hand when he interrogated Kristina and tried to turn her against her father by blaming Sonny for her baby's death, and promising that he'd drop the charges against her if she testified against her father.
Disgusted with his transparent attempts at manipulation, she'd told him to get lost. It prompted him to escalate his persecution of her to get either her or Sonny to crack under pressure. This wasn't Jagger's only crime in the recent episodes of General Hospital. His high-handedness had also alienated him from Ava, his former accomplice.
While Ava was driven to a discreet safehouse by Agent Boyle, she grew suspicious of Boyle's true motives when she said her life was in Jagger's hands. She was proven right when Boyle admitted that Cates blackmailed her into getting rid of Ava as a loose end.
The altercation culminated in a car crash when Ava tried to grab the wheel, only to run into Isaiah who'd gotten on the road. The fallout from this incident is yet to be seen, but it's another example of Cates's vendetta possibly costing people their lives.
General Hospital's Adam J. Harrington's cryptic post on social media
Adam J. Harrington seemed to acknowledge his character's fate on social media, wishing his followers good night on the same day the episode aired. However, the upcoming episode will solidify his character's fate on the show.
His X (formerly Twitter) post garnered several fan responses who said they were sad to see him leave the soap.
"Sorry it ended this way. Really enjoyed you on the show. When 1 door closes another is sure to open," one fan said.
Meanwhile, Adam's had a prolific career as an actor aside from his role in General Hospital. His acting credits include a 3-episode stint on The Lincoln Lawyer, which was an adaptation of Michael Connelly's 2005 novel of the same name.
He also guest-starred in Parks and Recreation and received a BAFTA nomination for Performer in a Supporting Role for his role as Sindri in God of War: Ragnarok.
General Hospital airs on ABC and Hulu.
