Jonathan Jackson is coming back to General Hospital and will reprise his old character, Lucky Spencer. He announced his comeback in an Instagram video on June 25, 2024:
"I'm super excited and can't wait to dig in and see what's going on in Port Charles," he said.
Jonathan seems excited to join back the cast, including Genie Francis, after over a decade. This comeback was first hinted at by GH executive producer Frank Valentini on the red carpet at the Daytime Emmys, earlier this month.
“A former cast member is coming back,” he said.
He added:
“And I think that the audience will go crazy for him.”
Jonathan is known for his role as Lucky Spencer, who is the son of legendary actors Luke (Anthony Geary) and Laura Spencer (Genie Francis). He has earned five Daytime Emmys for his role on General Hospital in 1995, 1998, 1999, 2011, and 2012. His return promises a new energy and storyline addition to the soap opera.
Jonathan’s past with General Hospital
Jonathan Jackson started playing the character Lucky Spencer in 1993. He remained part of General Hospital for over 18 years before his departure from Port Charles in 2011.
After leaving the show, he pursued his career with many new opportunities and different roles. He played Avery Barkley in the ABC drama Nashville and is well-recognized by the viewers.
His work in Nashville allowed him to showcase his versatility as an actor and a musician. The new role gave him a chance to interact with a whole new audience and spread his fan base. While his work outside daytime television was well-received, his return to General Hospital is highly anticipated by his fans who want Lucky Spencer back.
What to expect from Jackson’s comeback to General Hospital
Jackson coming back to GH is more than just a reminder of the past. It could bring new drama and entertainment to the storyline of the soap opera. People are excited to find out how Lucky Spencer will fit into the busy world of Port Charles.
Will he cause new problems or maybe fix old issues? Jackson's return is expected to connect with the current stories and make them more interesting.
His return is expected to attract both old viewers and new ones, who want to see what happens next in Lucky Spencer's story. General Hospital's strategy to bring back the known characters aims to increase the number of viewers.
Apart from Jackson, Bryan Craig will also return to the show as Morgan Corinthos for one day in August.
Jackson is not only known for his acting but also as a musician and a writer. He has performed around the world with his band, Jonathan Jackson + Enation, and has written books such as The Mystery of Art and The Harrowing of Hell. He has received several awards including the Distinction of Excellence from Royal Literary Magazine in 2022.
As Lucky Spencer gets ready to return to Port Charles, fans can expect a blend of old memories and new storylines. There’s a lot of excitement for the first episode of GH with Jonathan after his comeback, which might air anytime this summer.
