Samantha McCall also known as Sam on General Hospital has been played by Kelly Monaco for the past 21 years. On August 26, 2024, surprising news from an exclusive report by Soap Opera Network states that Kelly Monaco will be leaving the show this year.
The exit of the actress from General Hospital is reported as a creative decision as the makers have chosen to kill the character of Sam McCall. Though there is no exact date specified that will mark Sam's exit, it is said that this episode will air sometime in the fall of this year.
In the episode aired on August 22, 2024, Sam can be seen standing beside Molly Lansing and Kristen Corinthos Davis during their tough time as Kristen who was a surrogate for Molly’s child, lost their baby.
During this episode, Sam was portrayed by Lindsay as the Kelly has been swapped for a short while. However, it is not confirmed, for how many episodes Lindsay will be playing Sam, and what is the reason behind the swap this time.
Kelly, on August 22, 2024, posted on her Instagram about being grateful for her brief appearances as Sam.

The end of Sam on the show has come as a surprise to both the fans and Kelly Monaco as well. Kelly completed her two-decade journey with GH and shared the evolving journey of the character and herself too, in an October 10, 2023 interview with Soap Opera Digest.
“I think the biggest evolution for her is starting from being a really lonely, scared woman and becoming a woman who is still really independent but is protected by family and friends and love and relationships and loyalty, and she never had that before,” said Monaco.
She further added,
“It’s wild to me that I’ve been a part of ABC for 20-something years and GH for 20 years. I was in my early 20s when I started! GH is such a legendary show and I consider it my second home. Every day when I drive to the lot, I am just so honored to be a part of it.”
