The role of Scott Baldwin was created by Johnny Whitaker in 1965, as a well-known and loved television actor. In 1977, the part was recast, and Kin Shriner took over the role. He has consistently been playing Scotty on General Hospital ever since.

Over the years in the role, Scotty has been part of many schemes and storylines, even involved in taking bribes and blackmailing people.

He has been shown to be a person who does anything for self-service and to get what he wants. At times, this personality trait has also seeped into his court cases, where he uses unethical means to win his cases.

Scotty also has a longtime enmity with Port Charles' resident mob boss Sonny Corinthos. Scotty's eldest daughter Karen had been forced to become an underaged stripper for the mob, a grudge which he still bears. He also fathered other children with his longtime friend Heather Webber.

Sadly, three of Scott's five children ended up dying in the storyline of the soap. Karen, Franco and Logan met their ends, while their father mourned for them. But Scotty's two daughters Serena and Christina are still alive but don't play an active role in the current plot dynamics.
