General Hospital actor Steve Burton seems to have a very on-and-off equation with the soap. The actor, who plays Jason Morgan, was removed from the soap in 2021 after failing to follow COVID-19 guidelines on set. The character also remained off-screen and was presumed to be dead.
Burton's return to the soap in early 2024 gave daytime fans something to look forward to. However, Jason Morgan is again in danger on the show, making fans wonder whether the writers are setting him up for another exit.
Regardless, Steve Burton's exit is unlikely, especially since he just rejoined the show. Jason's current storyline involves working as an agent to protect Carly, and the plot might develop in a way that he doesn't have to do that anymore while still being a part of the story.
Is Steve Burton leaving General Hospital once more?
After seeing Jason Morgan in troubled waters for the past three months, fans speculate whether actor Steve Burton will exit General Hospital again. However, this is not likely.
In an episode of The Daily Drama Podcast, Burton spoke to his co-star Bradford Anderson, dispelling the rumors about his character. Anderson, who plays Spinelli on the soap, informed Burton of the rumors that he was re-cast on the soap for a short time. In response, Burton said:
"[Fans] said that I only signed a three-month contract and that I’m dying ... So, guess what? It’s a two-year contract, and I’m not dying! You heard it here first!"
After this revelation, it seems clear that Steve Burton intends to remain on General Hospital until at least 2026, as per his current contract. Therefore, planning a hasty exit for the actor seems unlikely.

Jason's current storyline on the soap explored
Jason Morgan has returned to the show after missing in action for about three years. He is working for the FBI and being blackmailed by Jagger Cates, a.k.a. Agent John. Jason is doing this to protect Carly from going to jail, something the two of them have even had intense arguments about.
Even though Jason completed his FBI mission and found Valentin, it is clear that Jagger still wants to have control over his agent. As per Jagger's orders, Jason must tell them some vital information about Sonny or leave Port Charles.
The story is on the brink of spiraling into some major drama. Carly shall surely try to do something that might go wrong and endanger Jason. However, Jason also briefly teamed up with Anna, who gave him some evidence he needed in exchange for the opportunity to warn Valentin to leave town.
It might be possible that Jason has made a steady but new alliance with Anna. Could that have anything to do with his getting out of the current situation? We will have to watch to find out.
