A blame game and power tug started among Port Charles residents in the current General Hospital storyline. After Michael got caught in the blast, followed by a fire in Sonny's penthouse, his cheating wife, Willow, and her boyfriend, Drew, showed their true colors. While Willow planted herself as his healthcare proxy to negotiate the custody of her children, Drew blamed Carly for Michael's predicament.
Longtime fans of the soap know Drew and Carly were close in the past on the ABC soap, and this blame may come as a surprise. Not only did Drew blame Carly for Michael's accident, but he also alluded to Morgan's death being Carly's fault.

On January 6, 2025, Michael Corinthos visited his adoptive father, Sonny Corinthos, to inform him about his decision to file for divorce. He also told his father about his resolution to fight for sole custody of his children. As Jason Morgan showed up to discuss business with Sonny, they left Michael in the penthouse and stepped out into the hall.
Michael heard a ticking sound before an explosion set Sonny's penthouse on fire. He was swallowed by flames as Sonny called 911, and Jason rushed in with a rug and covered Michael. After being taken to the hospital, Lucas Jones informed Sonny and Carly that Michael had 40 percent burns, making his survival slim.
A devastated Carly went to the chapel to pray for Michael's recovery. This is where Drew Caine/Quartermaine arrived to talk to her. As Carly accused Drew of starting an affair with Michael's wife, Willow, he reminded her of their past.
While he reminded her how he went to Pentonville to keep her unscathed, she pointed out that Drew's self-love had pushed him to feel like a hero. However, Drew blamed Carly for causing Morgan's death in 2016, besides being responsible for Michael's situation.
Realizing that the explosive planted in Sonny's penthouse was meant to take out the owner, Michael fell victim to it because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time. According to Drew, Michael would have been safe if Carly had not pushed Sonny to adopt him and brought the father-son duo close.
However, fans know Morgan's death had Ava Jerome involved and had nothing to do with Carly. Also, Michael found a father figure in Sonny who loved him. As such, Michael's parents cannot be blamed for his fire accident.

Carly is shaken by her son's condition. She was already worried about his mental state after Willow's affair was accidentally exposed. She also tried to ensure that Willow and her mother, Nina Reeves, did not take away the children.
Now that Michael is not available, Carly wants to fight for custody of his children. She has Attorney Diane Miller on her side. However, Willow is playing her cards as Michael's healthcare proxy to bargain on this matter.
