In the latest episode of the soap, Sharon's attorney Michael Baldwin, and his wife, Lauren Fenmore, were seen in a conversation with their longtime friend Phyllis. Michael and Lauren revealed details of Sharon's hypnosis to Phyllis, as well as the claims that Sharon was innocent. Many fans have taken issue with the scene, claiming that Michael should not have divulged the information to a third party in the case:
"Nor should he share with Lauren," another person commented.
Many audience members felt that it was not ethical of Michael to reveal information about his client publicly, and that he was in breach of attorney-client privilege.
However, a few viewers also tried to understand Phyllis' perspective and reaction to the situation, claiming that she had the right to respond with mistrust towards anything that Sharon might say about the case.
What is the debate between Phyllis Summers and Sharon Newman on The Young and the Restless?
Phyllis and Sharon's ongoing tussle is centered around the Heather Stevens case and how she was mysteriously murdered on The Young and the Restless. Initially, Sharon felt that she had been responsible for Heather's death since she broke into the Romalotti house and had a physical confrontation with her.
In the heat of the moment, Sharon even blacked out and then found Heather dead with a serious head injury, upon gaining consciousness.
In an attempt to cover up the scene, Sharon cleaned up everything, hid the remaining evidence in one of Daniel's cabinets, and dumped Heather's body in a nearby river. The crime was later pinned on Heather's partner and Phyllis' son, Daniel, when the evidence was discovered.
Phyllis started getting suspicious of Sharon, believing she was the one who killed Heather and framed Daniel for revenge. Before Phyllis could wring a confession from her rival, she got into a car crash and ended up in a coma. Sharon thought that she was responsible for this accident too and confessed her worries to her ex, Nick Newman.
Nick stood by Sharon, hired Michael as her defense attorney, and even arranged a toxicology test for her bipolar disorder medication. The results came back showing that Sharon's medication had been laced with PCP, which caused her hallucinations and sudden blackouts.
Then, Sharon even underwent hypnosis and realized that she had not killed Heather: someone else was present in the house on the night of the murder.
Even though Phyllis realized that the vehicle that hit her and caused her accident was struck and not Sharon's car, the events of the week's recent episodes have proved that she is still suspicious of Sharon.
After hearing about Sharon's hypnosis procedure from Lauren, Phyllis argued with Michael and Lauren that Sharon was making everything up to avoid judgment. She even stormed to Sharon's house to confront her.
Sharon still maintained that she was innocent and did not kill Heather, even in the face of Phyllis' fury at her door. It remains to be seen how the case pans out in the Genoa City courtrooms, and if the true perpetrator is finally brought to justice.
