The ABC soap opera General Hospital has recently gone through some major transformations since characters like Sam McCall, Robert Scorpio, and Holly Sutton's storylines have either taken a short break or met an end on the long-running show.

On November 24, 2024, after Chad Duell confirmed his exit from the show, executive producer Frank Valentin's tweet via his official X account left the fans furious about Michael Corinthos's exit from Port Charles.

“Please don’t kill off another cast member. We can’t take it anymore,” wrote a fan Eileen Aloni

The comment by the fan was followed by the recent setback for the viewers of the soap opera from the death of Sam McCall.

“Please tell me you’re not killing off the character?!” wrote a fan @eminemgirly8
“Frank, look at your comment… it says “you can promise a great story for him and his family WHEN CHAD EXITS IN THE NEW YEAR”. My question to you is, why didn’t you promise him a great story while he was there all these years?” wrote another fan @VentWithMe2024
“You better not be killing off another one of Carly’s kids .. have Michael off finding himself if or when Chad wants to reprise his role or you eventually get a recast .. stop killing off all the legacy characters. You better give us one last scene with Carly/Michael/Joss #GH” wrote another fan page @CarlysKids
“The character Michael is essential to the GH story. Please find a recast and don't even think of killing him off. We're not too happy with you right now anyway,” wrote another fan @sanevoice53

General Hospital star Chad Duell confirms his exit from the show

After playing Michael Corinthos on General Hospital for almost 15 years, Chad Duell has announced his departure from the soap opera. On November 23, the 37-year-old actor shared his decision in a heartfelt Instagram post, explaining that it was a difficult choice but the right one for him.

“This wasn’t an easy decision for me, but it feels like the right time in my life,” Duell wrote, along with a photograph of himself with his fellow actors.

Since joining General Hospital in 2010, Duell has been a key part of the show, playing the multifaceted character of Michael Corinthos. His performance won him a Daytime Emmy Award in 2015 for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series.

Duell expressed his gratitude to the show producer Frank Valentini, the cast, crew, and fans for their support during his time on the show.

“Your love and encouragement have meant the world to me. This isn’t a goodbye—it’s a see you later,” he wrote. His co-stars including Laura Wright and Katelyn MacMullen, shared messages of love and support in the comments, showing their love and support towards the actor.

Producer Frank Valentini also confirmed this news praising Duell’s talent and impact on the show. Valentini also hinted that there will be an interesting storyline for Michael’s family as Duell leaves. Although there are no plans to replace Michael, the dynamic nature of daytime television leaves room for future possibilities.

As Duell embarks on his next chapter, fans eagerly anticipate what’s next for the actor while celebrating the legacy he leaves on General Hospital.

Fans of General Hospital can watch the new episodes on ABC and Hulu.
