Kelly Monaco's character Sam McCall recently died on the General Hospital storyline, leaving her family and friends grieving after her. Sam was one of the long-running recurring characters on the soap who had been part of the show for over two decades. Presented as the daughter of Alexis Davis and mobster Julian Jerome, Sam became a crook-turned-investigator on the soap.

After Sam's death, Jason and Alexis were the first to share the grim news, soon joined by Laura, Curtis, and Sonny. Alexis's grief has been heart-wrenching, as most viewers have agreed. As did Steve Burton's Jason, Nancy Lee Grahn, who plays Alexis Davis, portrayed the sadness appropriately, according to fans.
Sam's fiance, Dante Falconeri, was devastated. He spent moments in Sam's room expressing his love and agony. He declared Sam as the grounding factor in his life. Later, Dante went to his father, Sonny Corinthos, and confided his distress.
The November 5, 2024, General Hospital episode saw Alexis, Molly, and Kristina talk to TJ as the latter informed them about Sam's autopsy. Kristina Corinthos-Davis, played by Kate Mansi, responded by negating the idea vehemently. She agreed after TJ and Molly explained why an autopsy was important.

On the other hand, Drew and Willow had a spell of intimacy in Scout's nursery room despite knowing about Sam's passing.
How did Sam die on General Hospital?
Sam McCall's unprecedented death came in the wake of a successful liver transplant operation. When the comatose Lulu Spencer was diagnosed with a need for a liver transplant, all residents of Port Charles got themselves tested to find a match.
Jason and Anna went to South Africa to get Lucky Spencer in town hoping to find a match. However, Sam was a match and chose to be Lulu's liver donor.
While the procedure was safe and successfully done, Sam suddenly collapsed while talking to her mother. As Alexis told Jason, Dante had proposed to Sam, and Sam was delighted to inform Alexis and show her the ring. However, she turned pale and started to deteriorate. Lucas Jones tried hard to revive her without any success.
Fans knew Sam would not survive the medical procedure, as Kelly Monaco’s departure from the role was announced some time ago. She was given this plot as her departure story arc. While the reason behind Kelly's exit remains unclear, her character's storyline has been concluded with a significant development.
