What happened to John and who killed him?

In the summer of 2024, one of the most significant mysteries in Port Charles was the death of FBI agent John Cates. Cates and mafia leader Sonny Corinthos had been at odds for a long time, and their hostility had reached a breaking point.

The two got into a furious argument at the Quartermaine boathouse on the evening of August 30, 2024, which turned violent. Cates was killed in the stormy night after being shot twice by Sonny on General Hospital. Although it looked to be a straightforward instance of self-defense, there was more to the story than meets the eye.

While Sonny fired the gun, there were indications that the shooting was motivated by fury rather than self-defense. Sonny had a history of violent outbursts, particularly when his illegal operations were threatened. The tension between him and Cates had been growing for months, making the encounter seem inevitable.

But the issue remained if it was an act of self-defense, or did Sonny lost control in a fit of anger.

Alexis, Cates's former coworker, is another important suspect in the case on General Hospital. Questions were raised about whether she was involved in the murder or if she was trying to hide something because she had been observed talking to Cates earlier and her gun was found close to the site.

It's still unknown if Alexis was actively responsible for Cates' demise or if she was only attempting to defend herself.

Kristina, Alexis' daughter, also became a subject of suspicion owing to her involvement with the gun. It's unclear if she became engaged in the scenario by mistake or because she was trying to help her mother.

While Sonny's participation in the crime is plausible, many questions remain unresolved. As the inquiry progresses on General Hospital, fresh information may reveal the actual circumstances surrounding Cates' death.

An overview of John’s character on General Hospital

On General Hospital, John Cates played the role of Jagger. From 1992 to 1995, Antonio Sabato, Jr. played him for the first time; in 2024, Adam J. Harrington took over. John became an FBI agent after initially being shown as a disturbed guy.

Jagger was involved in a heist at Kelly's Diner when he was a youngster, but Karen Wexler helped him turn his life around. He attended high school, began dating Karen, and worked at Kelly's.

He also had family problems, particularly after his brother Stone passed away from AIDS. Before becoming a police officer, Jagger gave boxing a go for a short time.

In 2024, John returned to Port Charles as the FBI agent. He looked into crimes involving Sonny Corinthos and other local leaders. His actions created tension with Sonny, resulting in a fight. In August 2024, Sonny shot and killed John, ending his story. Viewers can watch new episodes of this daily soap on ABC.
