What happened between Kyle and Diane on The Young and the Restless?
During the December 18 episode, the Abbott family attempted to try and piece at the strain between them in their own ways. The first conversation about the issue was when Jack told Traci that Kyle was doubting Diane again. After Diane and Jack pretended to orchestrate a split between them, Kyle lost trust in his parents. Jack mentioned that his son was building up walls after the incident and after his fights with Diane.
Traci tried to convince Jack that, given time, Kyle and Diane would be able to fix their equation. Jack hoped that Kyle would be able to move past his deep-seated hatred and doubt. Jack also confessed that he was concerned about his relationship with his mother, Dina, and whether the same pattern was repeated with Kyle.
Meanwhile, at Crimson Lights, Diane also worried about her equation with Jack and Kyle. She thought about how she was on a rocky edge with her family despite making sacrifices for them. Most prominently, she thought about the time she stepped away from her position at Jabot just to ensure that Kyle could be co-CEO of the company with his father.
Later in the episode, Kyle and his girlfriend, Claire, went on a dinner date. Kyle ended up discussing his family situation with Claire. He explained to Claire how he immediately got defensive when he thought his parents were splitting and that it brought out many unresolved issues for him.
He decided he needed to take some time to mend his relationship with his mother, as he could not regulate his feelings like an on-and-off switch.
The Young and the Restless is available online via Paramount+ and CBS. New episodes are released on weekdays.
