About the show Days of Our Lives

Days of Our Lives is an American television soap opera that aired on NBC from 1965 to 2022 and currently streams new episodes on Peacock. It was created by Ted and Betty Corday and is one of the longest-running scripted television programs in the world. It has been airing nearly every weekday since November 8, 1965.

During the show's early years, Irna Phillips served as the story editor, and William J. Bell wrote some of the earliest storylines of the soap. After the 2007 cancellation of Passions, Days of Our Lives remained the only soap opera airing on NBC. The show is set in Illinois, primarily focusing on the Brady and Horton families but representing other families as well.

Frances Reid, who played the matriarch of the Horton family, remained with the show until she died in 2010. Suzanne Rogers is the longest-serving member of Days of Our Lives's current cast, appearing on the show since August 1973. Susan Seaforth Hayes is the only cast member to appear on Days of Our Lives in all seven decades it has been on the air.

After seeing its popularity, the creators of the show increased the length of the daily episodes from 30 minutes to 60 minutes on April 21, 1975. The soap was titled "Most Daring Drama" in the 1970s due to its exploration of topics that other soaps of the era didn't cover.

The show's executive producer is Ken Corday, who has held that role since his mother, Betty, relinquished show running duties in 1986. As of March 2023, the soap was renewed through September 2025.
