Brando Corbin was a character on General Hospital who was one of the early victims of the dreaded killer, The Hook, on the soap. Brando was portrayed by late actor Johnny Wactor, who met with death at the hands of antisocial assailants in downtown Los Angeles on May 26, 2024. While Brando was not a legacy character, Johnny's Brando was lauded for adding an element of old-fashioned morality to the soap.
For the newly indicted fans, Brando Corbin was part of General Hospital for about two years and packed in enough drama, romance, and action to be remembered even after his exit from the show. Connected to the Corinthos family through his mother, Gladys' relation to Mike Corinthos née Corbin, Brando stood up for his responsibilities and righteousness.
General Hospital: A brief sketch of Brando Corbin
Played by now-deceased actor Johnny Wactor, Brando Corbin landed in Port Charles in 2020, even though he was mentioned in General Hospital a few months before that. Brando was first heard of in June 2019, when Mike Corbin displayed confusion between Dev Cerci, an illegal entrant from Turkey, and Gladys's son.
Based on that, Sonny forced Gladys to claim that Dev was Brando's son with a fictional wife and that Brando was dead. While Gladys accepted, Brando arrived at Port Charles on January 30, 2020. He saved Carly from an attack by Cyrus Renault's henchmen. He was disguised as Sonny's warehouse worker but was injured during the gunfight.
The next day, as Brando recovered at the hospital, Carly found pictures of Gladys and Dev among his belongings. She relayed the information to Sonny, who questioned Gladys. It was revealed that the mother and son were estranged because of Brando's involvement with some wrong people. However, he followed his mother on social media and her supposed grandson.
Forbidden by Sonny, Gladys told Brando that Dev was her son. Sonny employed Brando in his garage, Xtreme Motors. When Brando turned down Cyrus's offer to work for him, his henchmen came to the garage and beat up Brando. The attack was witnessed because of a camera and Brando was brought to the hospital.
In a joint scheme with Sonny, Brando took up work as Cyrus' driver to get information on him. He gave Cyrus information about Sasha, one of Cyrus' drug users, to build trust. However, also took Sasha to the hospital when she overdosed. Soon Sasha and Brando got romantically involved.
When Sasha became pregnant, Brando left his job at Cyrus'. However, Cyrus was taken to prison and Brando quit the driver's job. Working at the garage, Brando planned for his upcoming family life. However, because Esme Prince captured and held Sasha in a closet, there were risks to the unborn child.
On November 19, 2021, Brando and Sasha had their baby boy, who they later named Liam Mike Corbin. However, when the doctors informed them that because of a lack of oxygen before birth, the child was brain-dead; the couple decided to pull the plug on the respirator.
In March 2022, Brando and Sasha left town to overcome their grief. They went to Niagara Falls and later in the month got married in a nearby chapel.
Brando continued his honest work. He faced a fight with a robber in April 2022. In the summer of 2022, a mysterious killer with a hook started attacking people. Ava was the first victim of the attack, but she survived it. On September 14, 2022, The Hook stabbed Brando twice in the chest, leaving bone shards in his lung.
Although hospitalized and treated, Brando started coughing blood and having seizures on September 19, 2022. The next day, he died because of poisoning from The Hook. He was the first victim to have died in the attack of the notorious Hook. Heather Webber was later revealed to be the killer, and she was institutionalized.
