Calliope Jones, portrayed by the late Arleen Sorkin, debuted on Days of Our Lives in 1984. She quickly became a fan favorite through her quirky personality and colorful wardrobe. Calliope last appeared on the show in 2010.
Calliope arrived in Salem as the costume designer for the DiMeras. Following her arrival, she befriended several characters, who made her part of some drama on the show. Sorkin earned two Daytime Emmy nominations and won four Soap Opera Digest awards for her portrayal of Calliope, who was a recurring character from 1984 to 2010.
Calliope left Salem and moved to New York City with her husband, Eugene Bradford. She is a successful wedding planner in New York.

Sorkin passed away in August 2023 at the age of 67 due to health-related issues. Calliope won't return to the show as the showrunners have decided not to recast her to honor Sorkin's legacy.
Who is Calliope Jones on Days of Our Lives?
Calliope came to Salem as an employee of Liz Curtis's clothing brand. Her first appearance features her designing dresses for Anna DiMeri. During her employment, she became entangled in a major storyline.
Calliope accidentally acquired Daphne DiMera's diamond necklace and claimed it to be hers. Stefano DiMera was after the same necklace, which contained one of the three prisms he wanted. This inadvertent involvement turned into an adventurous storyline for Calliope.
Later in the year, Calliope joined Anna, Troy DiMera, Eugene Bradford, Hope Williams, and Bo Brady for a photo shoot in Haiti. Their plane crashed on a remote island after a stowaway, Andre DiMeri, threatened the pilot, leading to the pilot suffering a fatal heart attack.
The aftermath of the crash resulted in the death of Daphne DiMera and Andre DiMera. The Coast Guard saved the remaining people. Eugene Bradford and Calliope's bond developed during their time on the island.
Calliope and Eugene's relationship on Days of Our Lives
In 1985, Eugene and Calliope got engaged. However, it was revealed that Eugene needed to marry a wealthy woman to gain his inheritance. Calliope pretended to be a wealthy and high-class woman to help Eugene.
But they hit a roadblock when they discovered that Eugene's mother, Vanessa Van Kessler, had spent all his inheritance.
To prevent his mother from being jailed, Eugene married Madeline Rutherford. Eventually, after their problems were sorted, Eugene and Calliope married on December 31, 1985.
Eugene and Calliope were separated again when Eugene disappeared because of a time machine he was building. After traveling to the future, Eugene built an Android version of Calliope. He managed to return to the present and brought the Android with him.
However, the men from the future arrived for the android Calliope and, by mistake, took the real Calliope to the future. Eugene rescues her, and the two reunite.
Calliope co-hosted a daytime talk show with Jennifer Hortan-Deveraux in 1990. The show was successful, but she left Salem to pursue bigger opportunities.
Calliope's return to Salem over the years on Days of Our Lives
Although Calliope left Salem, she has made a few visits to Salem over the years. In 2006, Calliope returned to Salem as a wedding planner to help organize Marlena Evans's wedding to Alex North. She also helped Shawn-Douglas Brady and Mimi Lockhart plan their wedding.
Calliope last appeared on Days of Our Lives in 2010, when Rafe Hernandez, the commissioner, employed her to gather evidence against EJ and Anna DiMeri for charges against the kidnapping of Sydney DiMera.
During her visits, it was revealed that Calliope was now living in New York City with Eugene and that they were still married to each other.

Arleen Sorkin was known for her comedic timing. She made Calliope one of the most memorable and loved characters on Days of Our Lives. Her comedic antics and romance with Eugene added comic relief to the heavy plots.
Beyond the soap, Sorkin is known for voicing Harley Quinn in Batman: The Animated Series. She has also reprised the role in other animated series, including Superman: The Animated Series, Gotham Girls, and The New Batman Adventures.
Born on October 14, 1955, Sorkin passed away on August 24, 2023, due to health issues. Her passing was met with an outpouring of of tributes from colleagues and fans.
