Dex Heller, played by Evan Hofer, on General Hospital, seems to be at a critical juncture in his story arc. The Army vet-turned-cop has been part of the soap for more than two years.
Slated as Sonny Corinthos's bodyguard and Josslyn Jacks's romantic interest, Dex has been sincere and helpful in his job at PCPD. However, he recently sustained a serious injury when he was stabbed in the back at Rice Plaza and admitted to the titular hospital.
Dex Heller first arrived in Port Charles in May 2022 and has remained in town ever since. While his backstory was never revealed, his current predicament has put his life in danger leading to speculations about the character's exit from the soap. However, nothing has been officially announced by the show creators or the actor.
Meanwhile, General Hospital is recognized as one of the longest-running American daily soaps airing since April 1963. The ABC soap presents interpersonal dynamics between resident families of the town of Port Charles, including mobsters and law enforcers, besides the hospital's staff.

General Hospital: Which situation did Dex find himself in?
On the General Hospital episode which aired on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, Dex and his new colleague, Lauren Jackson, were shown out on routine patrol at Rice Plaza. As Dex introduced his co-worker to Felicia Scorpio, Cyrus Renault who was nearby started ringing a bell loudly while preaching and asking for donations.
Soon a group of football players came into the area arguing about their game and the teams. The drunk players got into a scuffle that Dex and Lauren had to break up. While Lauren chased the boys away, Dex went into the back alley to pour away the alcohol confiscated from the fighting players.
Since Dex was busy emptying the bottles into a trashcan, he didn't hear someone approaching from behind. The unrecognizable assailant had a big knife and wore black gloves and a jacket. As the perpetrator stabbed Dex in the back, the cop felt the pain and collapsed.
Later when Felicia and Lauren found him, he informed them about being stabbed. Lauren called the authorities and Dex was taken to General Hospital. While his condition was stabilized after his first aid, Dex was taken in for surgery where Dr. Gannon would stitch up his wound.
Before going in for his surgery, Dex told co-cop, Chase about the incident and the location. Chase took up the investigation of Dex's stabbing as the latter was shown to be in surgery.

General Hospital: What could be the reason behind the attack on Dex?
As fans know, recent General Hospital episodes have shown Cyrus Renault back in town. He kept visiting Lulu often while claiming to have turned into a religious man. He was also seen trying to move Lulu into an unknown facility without the knowledge of her immediate family, mother, Laura, and brother, Lucky.
The episode on Monday, December 9, 2024, found Dex questioning Cyrus about his movements. The two met at the plaza where Dex was donating money for a charity and came face-to-face with Cyrus. While Cyrus claimed to be staying away from his family respecting his sister's wishes, Dex pointed out that the ex-criminal was in town during Halloween.
Cyrus swore he wasn't around to visit Lulu during Halloween. However, he did not reveal why he was at the hospital at the time. Later in the episode, Cyrus was seen reminiscing about entering Sam's hospital room and inserting digitalis into her IV fluid bag. This proves that Cyrus killed Sam and wanted to take Lulu Spencer away.
It is speculated that after Dex's probing questions, Cyrus may have been worrying that the cop may stumble into the truth connecting him to Sam's death. As such, silencing Dex could possibly be a way out for Cyrus. This theory suggests Cyrus is behind Dex's stabbing although, Felicia was also seemingly wearing black gloves.
Exactly why Cyrus wanted Sam dead is unclear as of now, he seems to be a valid suspect for Dex's condition. However, who is the actual culprit behind the stabbing remains to be seen.
Stay tuned to ABC to catch the upcoming drama on General Hospital.
