Diane Miller is the Port Charles attorney appearing intermittently on General Hospital since 2007. Played by Emmy winner Carolyn Hennesy, Diane is seen in town when someone needs legal advice or is facing the judge. Connected to Sonny Corinthos and his company initially, Diane has come around to help other Port Charles residents when needed.
Viewers of General Hospital may already know the soap as one of the long-running American shows airing on ABC since 1963. Based in the fictional Port Charles area, the stories revolve around the residents of the town connected to the local hospital. However, fans may not remember Diane's entry into the soap and her friendship with the rival attorney, Alexis. With Alexis in custody for Cates' murder, Diane is expected to have a significant presence in the current storyline.
General Hospital: A brief look at Diane Miller's journey in the soap
In 2007, the General Hospital storyline introduced Carolyn Hennesy's Diane Miller as the attorney enlisted to represent Sonny Corinthos. Besides helping him stay away from legal issues, she gave him unusual advice to defend himself such as asking him to remarry Carly to stop her from testifying against him in Lorenzo Alcazar's murder.
Her association with Sonny extended to Diane representing Sonny's righthand man, Jason Morgan. Years later, when the absent Jason resurfaced, she helped him surrender to the police. Diane loved representing fashion editor Kate Howard since the attorney was enthusiastic about fashion.
One of her lasting friendships has been with Alexis Davis who was her opponent in the Elizabeth-Lucky Spencer case. Their camaraderie grew as the two parties were working out a settlement. So when Alexis ran her car over Kiefer Bauer, Diane represented him. She co-authored a book with Damien Spinelli's alter ego, Jackal.
Her other cases involved representing Lulu against Valentin, and defending Carly against charges of trying to kill Nelle. On one hand, she got Jason convicted to place him in the same prison as Michael for the latter's protection, while on the other she asked Michael to switch his association from Sasha to Willow, to get Wiley's custody.
Next, General Hospital saw Diane fighting off Nina Reeves' advances for Wiley's visitation rights. She also helped Trina and Sasha avoid prison in separate cases. However, while helping Sasha, she was attacked by The Hook killer and escaped death.
General Hospital: What are the current plot dynamics for Diane?
In 2023, Diane and Robert Scorpio had started a romantic relationship. Despite catching him with his former love interest, Holly, Diane gave him another chance when he begged her. However, 2024 saw them representing opposite camps. While Robert looked to put Sonny behind bars, Diane's job was to keep the mobster safe.
Diane happily helped Alexis renew her law license and accompanied her to Albany to discover that Ava was responsible for Alexis's disbarring. Currently, Alexis is in prison trying to keep Kristina's name clear in the Cates murder. The audience already knows that Sonny killed Cates but some evidence points towards Kristina as well.
In the episode dated September 24, 2024, Diane was seen advising Carly to get back with Sonny so that the mobster could have an alibi. However, the gentle-hearted attorney found Chase questioning Kristina and advised her to promptly get an attorney since Chase was likely to follow up and try to incriminate her.
Stay tuned to General Hospital as the Cates case unfolds and more confusing evidence and perplexing lies come out. Find out what stand Diane takes in the upcoming episodes of the soap airing on ABC on weekdays.
