Dylan Mcavoy is played by Steve Burton on the CBS soap opera The Young and the Restless. The character first appeared on the show on January 19, 2013, and remained a regular cast member of the show for four years until his exit on January 27, 2017.
Steve Burton, who is also known for his role as Jason Morgan on the ABC soap opera General Hospital, played the two very different roles. Jason is a “Stone Cold” character, while Dylan’s character is a bit lighter on The Young and the Restless, which allowed Steve to add a bit of his persona.
Dylan Mcavoy in The Young and the Restless was thought dead by his former lover Avery Bailey Clark in a war in Afghanistan where he was posted. But Dylan was alive and returned to Genoa City, and Avery was shocked to see him.
She had already moved on in her life with Nicholas Newman, hence Dylan also got into a romantic relationship with Chelsea Lawson. The characters’ exit is marked by the wish of the actor to quit the show to spend more time with his family.
The journey of Dylan Mcavoy on The Young and the Restless
Dylan McAvoy, played by Steve Burton on The Young and the Restless, faced many ups and downs during his time on the show.
He grew up in Darien, Connecticut, and went to Chicago for high school. His life took a turn after he met lawyer Avery Bailey Clark, as they fell in love, but their baby didn’t survive, which also ended their marriage.
Before Dylan would leave to serve in the U.S. Army, he asked Avery to marry him, but she chose to live with Nicholas. Avery soon found in the newspapers about the demise of Dylan in a war in Afghanistan, but it wasn’t true.
To find Avery, Dylan visited Genoa City, where Avery had moved to her sister Phyllis. He took a job at Nick Newman’s bar, The Underground, in The Young and the Restless. Avery saw Dylan there but ignored his presence.
Dylan helped Sharon Newman as she met an accident after a snowstorm and developed a bond, which resulted in a short-lived relationship. Dylan got his father to Genoa City, as he was not well, but died.
Dylan sought emotional support from Chelsea Lawson, but she lied about being the mother of Dylan’s kid, as it was revealed that it was Adam Newman’s child.
As the truth about the child’s paternity was revealed, which ultimately led to Fylan and Chelsea’s marriage falling apart, Dylan remained in Genoa City. He soon found out that Nikki Newman is her biological mother, because of which, his connection with Sharon grew further.
This happiness was short-lived, though, as Sharon told Dylan that their son Sully was not theirs but Nick and Sage Newman's. After Dylan lost Sully, he was shattered and emotionally broken.
To get over his trauma, Dylan joined the FBI and went undercover to infiltrate a drug ring led by Luther Fisk. Dylan’s cover was blown when Sharon called his burned phone, which led to a face-off with Luther’s goons. He survived and got nto witness protection.
Dylan left Sharon, as he didn’t want to risk her life and left Genoa City in 2013, after which the only thing Sharon received from him were the divorce papers through his attorney.
