Actress Risa Dorken, who debuted on General Hospital as Nurse Amy Driscoll in 2016, recently opened up about a health scare that left fans concerned.

On December 29, 2024, Dorken revealed through a post on Instagram, that she had to spend the Christmas week being hospitalized as she underwent surgery to remove her gallbladder and was recovering from the surgery.

She also expressed gratitude for the support of her loved ones and the medical personnel. Fans soon flooded her post with love and wished her a fast recovery.


What happened to Risa Dorken, the actress who plays Amy Driscoll on General Hospital?

Dorken took to Instagram to reveal that she had been dealing with undiagnosed health issues over the past 8 months, despite undergoing numerous tests and scans.

However, after consulting a few more doctors, Doreken discovered that she needed immediate surgery to remove her gallbladder. As Dorekn also suffered from jaundice and pancreatitis, the surgery to remove the gallbladder became complicated.

Looking back at the situation, Dorken described her pain as, "Thought I knew pain before... nope. Now I do.” Doreken emphasized the need to trust one's instincts and stand up for oneself in order to receive the necessary care.

Dorken expressed her gratitude to the medical personnel at UCLA and her husband, Bo Clark, for supporting her. She stated:

"Thank you to nurse Stephanie who chatted with me about her dogs when I hadn’t seen daylight in days, the hilarious GI team who eased my anesthesia nerves, Dr. Kim & Dr. Bamdad + the surgery team for your care, and my Husband- whose love, calmness, humor and patience got me through."

She further assured her fans that she was healing from the surgery and the condition was under control.

Risa Dorken was born on February 4, 1990, in Minnesota. She graduated from St. Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists in 2009 and later in 2011, completed a two-year Musical Theatre Program at Circle in the Square Theatre School.

After graduation, Dorken was a part of the theatre scene in New York. In 2014, Dorken moved to Los Angeles to pursue opportunities in films and television. She landed the role of Amy Driscoll on General Hospital in 2016.

Dorken played a guest role on a comedy series, Life in Pieces on CBS. She also starred in several other short films and series.

DorkLife in Piecesen married fellow actor Bo Clark in 2017.

Amy Driscoll first appeared on May 4, 2016, in a scene with Maxie Jones. Following her introduction, she quickly became a suspect in the hospital murder investigations.

In May 2017, Amy's past was explored and it was revealed that she wasn't fond of Maxie in high school as Maxie excluded Amy from the cheerleading team. She also clashed with Nathan West after the Nurses' ball after she used his image for the cover of the book, 'Ask Man Landers,' which Maxie wrote anonymously.

In November 2017, Amy's brother, Chet Driscoll arrived in Port Charles and was admitted to General Hospital after a drug overdose. Nathan forgave her after he discovered that she needed the money from the book sales for her brother's medical expenses.

On October 2, 2017, Amy reconnected with her high school friend Brook Lynn Quartermaine, after she met her at Charlie's Pub. Brook sought out Amy's help to record the theme song of Deception on her behalf as Brook was recovering from a vocal injury.

After helping Brook record the song, Amy attended the buyer pitch of Deception on October 14, 2020.

In June 2021, Amy supported Harrison Chase during his recovery from food poisoning. After discovering that he was disappointed after his trip to Budapest was canceled, Amy decorated the hospital to replicate Budapest to cheer him up.

Amy has also performed at the Nurses' Ball over the years. At the 2017 Nurses' Ball, she performed Brave with Emma Drake, Valerie Spencer, and Kristina Strom. When she had to walk the red carpet alone, Nathan stepped up to save her from the embarrassment.

Dorken's portrayal of Amy has made the character one of the most loved characters on General Hospital.
