Kelly Monaco plays Sam McCall on the ABC soap opera General Hospital. The character was introduced on the show on October 1, 2003, as the daughter of mob boss Julian Jerome, played by William deVry, and Alexis Davis, played by Nancy Lee Grahn.

Kelly Monaco has played Sam on General Hospital since the character's inception, but there have been several instances when Lindsay Hartley filled in for Kelly for brief durations in 2020, 2022, and 2024. The last time Hartley took over the role was when Monaco was on medical leave.

In the episode of General Hospital from August 23, 2024, Lindsay Hartley was seen as Sam McCall, filling in for Kelly Monaco for a short duration. However, it has not been officially announced how long Monaco will remain absent from her character. Neither the actress nor the show has yet announced the reason for this.


Who is General Hospital star Kelly Monaco?

Kelly Marie Monaco is an American actress born on May 23, 1976, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. In her childhood, Kelly lived with her parents and four siblings in Poconos and attended Pocono Mountain High School, where she took her first acting class.

During her junior year in high school, Kelly met her former partner, Mike Gonzalez. The couple dated for 18 years, went to Northampton Community College together and also worked as lifeguards at a local resort. However, they broke up in 2009.

On an episode of the reality show Dirty Soap in 2011, Kelly spoke about how disheartened she was due to the split, and her co-star Kristen Storms (who portrays Maxie Jones), counseled her to navigate her feelings.

Kelly has actively participated in social causes and charity work. In July 2009, she, along with her co-stars and several other celebrities, went to Kenya, Africa, as part of the Feed the Children program to provide food and other essentials to schools and orphanages.

Another charity drive that Monaco and her co-stars went on was being part of the iParticipate campaign on October 24, 2009. The campaign aimed at beautifying a school in Los Angeles.

Kelly’s initial interest was in becoming a model. She started her modeling career in 1996 when she sent her portfolio to Playboy, the lifestyle and entertainment magazine. She became the Playmate of the Month for April 1997. During her tenure with Playboy in the 1990s, Monaco was also featured in many special editions of the publication.

Kelly started her acting career with her appearance as Susan in Baywatch (1997-1998), in the episodes The Choice, Quarantine, and Diabolique. Between 2000 and 2003, she played the role of Livvie Locke / Tess Ramsey in Port Charles.

She also participated in and won the first season of Dancing with the Stars in 2005. She reappeared as a contestant in season fifteen in 2012, finishing in third place. She was also seen in a special performance in season 25 of the dance reality show in 2017.

Kelly Monaco has played two roles on General Hospital since she joined in 2003. She played Sam McCall from October 1, 2003, to the present and Alicia Montenegro between July and August 2005. In 2011, she played Julie in the television movie The Edge of the Garden.
