Lois Cerullo is a character from General Hospital who's starred in the soap opera for multiple story arcs: one from 1993-1997, one from 2004-2005, and one from 2023 onwards. Rena Sofer played her in the 1990s, and Lesli Kay in her 2004-2005 appearances. Rena Sofer reprised her role upon the character's return in 2023.
Lois is the daughter of Carmine Cerullo and Gloria Cerullo. She was introduced in 1993 as a band manager and grew impressed with the singing abilities of Eddie Maine when he performed with The Idle Rich, a band under her management.
Unbeknownst to her, however, Eddie Maine was an alias of Ned Quartermaine. He deliberately hid this fact from her during their early relationship. Lois's dramatic arc revolves around discovering this fact, as well as dealing with the associated baggage of the Quartermaine family. She also had a daughter with Ned named Brook Lynn Quartermaine.
Lois Cerullo unwittingly fell for a Quartermaine in General Hospital
When Lois Cerullo first met Eddie Maine, she assumed his day job was that of a pharmaceutical salesman while he pursued singing at night, an assumption Eddie did not correct.
Lois and Eddie eventually fell in love and married one another, following which she moved into the town of Port Charles. There, Lois met her old friend, Sonny Corinthos, and connected with his girlfriend, Brenda Barrett. The two decided to start their own record label called L&B Records.
Ned Quartermaine's double life began to unravel after Katherine Bell blackmailed him into marrying her. This wasn't enough for Ned to come clean to Lois, but she eventually found out anyway, thanks to news of the marriage being broadcast on TV.
Lois made a dramatic entrance by popping out of the wedding cake and congratulating "Mrs. Ned Ashton, from the other Mrs. Ned Ashton." and ended her relationship with Ned.
Realizing the gravity of what he'd done, Ned tried to make amends and win Lois back and eventually succeeded. Lois agreed to remarry him, provided there were no more secrets.
While their second marriage survived some rough patches, such as Ned ratting out Sonny as a mobster to police Commissioner Mac Scorpio, what ended up spelling its doom was Ned's troubles with his family.
The Quartermaines owned a company called ELQ Solutions, which Ned's mother, Tracy Quartermaine, almost ran into the ground before skipping town. Lois gave Ned an ultimatum: either he could help her raise her unborn daughter or go to the company instead.
Ned chose the company, and Lois returned to her hometown of Bensonhurst, their marriage over. Lois gave birth to their daughter, who she named Brook Lynn Quartermaine, and tried to reconcile with Ned as she felt guilty about keeping him away from his own daughter.
This reconciliation attempt backfired as she discovered that Ned had already begun an affair with Monica Quartermaine and was planning to file for sole custody of her daughter. This led Lois to flee Port Charles once more.
What happened with Lois's daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine?
Lois's later character arcs in General Hospital focused on her struggles in raising her daughter, Brook Lynn Quartermaine. In 2004, she returned to Port Charles to find her daughter after she'd run away and successfully did so with Ned's help.
She then attempted to start a girl band with Brook, only for that plan to fall apart after the murder of one of the band members, Sage Alcazar. Eventually, Lois would reconcile with Ned, admitting that while they didn't work out romantically, she could still be friends with him and allow him into Brook's life. The three then moved from Port Charles to Manhattan.
By the 2023 run of General Hospital, Brook Lynn got a job at Deception Cosmetics, and Lois eventually returned to Port Charles to reconnect with her after learning she'd been fired. Lois's new story arc reconnects her with Olivia Quartermaine and Sonny.
Rena Sofer returned as Lois Cerullo to General Hospital in October 2023. General Hospital airs on ABC.
