Maggie was introduced as a farm girl on the show, who later became the love interest for Mickey Horton on screen. She went on to marry him and become part of the Horton family. Initially, she was also crippled and unable to walk, but soon regained that ability.

Maggie was introduced in 1973 as a crippled character who fell for Mickey Horton. After her marriage to him, her storylines mainly focused on her romance and how she dealt with family issues.

The character was portrayed to be family-centric and steadfast in her opinions. Naturally, she also extended her opinions to those around her, trying to help, and sometimes interfering, with their lives.

A storyline that many fans sympathized with was when Maggie discovered she had Myasthenia Gravis, an autoimmune disorder. This was meant as a nod to Suzanne Rogers' real-life troubles with the same ailment. The character was also briefly killed off in 2003, but revealed to be alive the following year after the killing was declared a hoax.

Maggie is also briefly married to Victor Kiriakis on the soap, before he died in an accident in 2023. At present, the character was involved in bringing down the conman Konstantin earlier this year. Maggie worked with John Black, Marlena Evans, and Steve Johnson against Konstantin.

Actress Suzanne Rogers plays the character of Maggie Horton on Days of Our Lives. Last year, she celebrated 50 years of being on the soap, having debuted the role in 1973. Rogers did take a few breaks from the show, the most prominent one in 1984, after she was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder.

In an interview with Soaps.com in August 2024, Rogers admitted that every day on set brought something new and that she still felt nervous in front of the cameras sometimes. The actress elaborated:

"The nerves give me a sense of, 'OK, I don't know what's going to happen.' I'm always on my toes ... You need to have that energy, the energy from the nerves. It fuels me, it fuels me, yes, absolutely!"

The actress started as a dancer at New York City's Radio City Music Hall before moving to the television industry. Rogers has also worked on other projects during her career. The most notable roles have been listed below:
