Mariah Copeland from The Young and the Restless was introduced to the soap in 2014 and has been played by Camryn Grimes in all her appearances. She was introduced during the tenure of executive producer Jill Faron Phelps.
Mariah was deliberately written to resemble Cassie Newman, an earlier character played by Camryn Grimes who'd been killed off. This served as the basis for her introductory story arc, where she gaslit her grieving mother, Sharon Newman, by posing as her dead daughter's spirit.
Sharon feared she was going insane until she realized she could touch the supposed "ghost," revealing her to be a lookalike on the payroll of Victor Newman.
Since then, throughout The Young and the Restless, Mariah Copeland continued to have dramatic story arcs revolving around Sharon and Nick Newman, and eventually began a long-term romance with Tessa Porter.

Mariah Copeland drove a wedge between Sharon and Nick in The Young and The Restless
When Mariah Copeland first appeared in The Young and the Restless, she worked under Victor Newman to further his agenda of driving Sharon and Nick apart. She did so by impersonating the deceased Cassie Newman and messing with Sharon's mind. Once her scheme was exposed, Mariah was forgiven by Sharon and taken in.
However, Mariah was compelled by Ian Ward of the New World Cult to violate this trust by trying to seduce Nick, leading Sharon to throw her out of the house. Nick eventually discovered that Mariah had been Sharon Newman's biological daughter the entire time.
The two of them rescued Mariah from Ian's clutches when he tried to force her into a marriage with him, and she was welcomed into their family once more. Mariah went on to have a short-lived romance with Kevin Fisher.
Mariah was later hired by Hilary Curtis to work at GC Buzz and got entangled with Sharon Newman's family issues upon learning that Sharon's son Sully wasn't actually hers. Mariah alienated Hilary for a while by dating Devon Hamilton, but she eventually moved on from him and fell for a musician named Tessa Porter.

Mariah's romance with Tessa survived many ups and downs
Mariah's romance with Tessa during The Young and the Restless hit a few bumps at the start, with Mariah struggling with her feelings and falling out with Tessa thanks to her stealing her private journal for inspiration to write new music. Eventually, at Kyle Abbot's urging, Mariah committed to an earnest relationship with Tessa.
Their relationship continued to face challenges throughout The Young and the Restless, such as when Tessa tried to help out her sister, Crystal, going as far as blackmailing Nikki, Victoria, and Sharon for money.
Other trials and tribulations faced by the pair included the arrival of Tessa's ex, Tanner Watts, Mariah's job struggles, and Sharon Newman's breast cancer diagnosis. After giving Tessa her blessing to get back together with Tanner, Mariah proceeded to confide in Lindsay about her troubles, only for Tessa to catch her and mistake her for cheating, resulting in another rift between the two.
With some effort, Mariah managed to win back Tessa, who warned that they'd be through if she messed up again. Mariah would subsequently serve as the maid of honor for Abby Newman's wedding with Chance Chancellor. Mariah would subsequently become the surrogate mother for Abby and Chance's baby, causing her to desire a family of her own.
This would culminate in Mariah and Tessa having their own wedding, with Kyle Abbot being the officiator. The couple would go on to have a honeymoon in Paris.
As of 2024, Mariah is working under her mother Sharon Newman's company, Cassidy First Technologies, named after the late Cassie Newman.
