Nick Newman and Sharon Collins-Newman are a super couple on The Young and the Restless. The duo met and got romantically involved in 1994, which led to their decade-long marriage. They share two biological children and have often been in and out of their relationship.

Despite being currently divorced, Nick looks out for Sharon's well-being, and the latter leans on him. Recently, Sharon has gone off her bipolar medicines and become mentally unstable, leading to Nick becoming protective of her. While he is trying to help her, she is pining to get back with him romantically.

The Young and the Restless has brought forth many enigmatic relationships over the years since its premiere in March 1973. One such couple is Nick and Sharon. Nick from the powerful Newman family was paired with a middle-class Sharon Collins. However, Sharon, a trained psychologist, now runs her own company.

The Young and the Restless: A quick look at Nick and Sharon's past

In 1994, on The Young and the Restless, an 18-year-old Nick Newman, played by Joshua Morrow, met Sharon Collins, and they fell in love despite being in relationships with other partners. However, Sharon's jealous boyfriend, Matt, raped her, an incident she tried to keep a secret.

But, when standing up against his parents, Nick decided to commit himself to Sharon. She then felt obliged to reveal the truth. A livid Nick rushed to Matt only to find him previously injured, and he landed in prison for attempted murder.

However, the actual culprit came forward, and a free Nick married Sharon, played by Sharon Case. They had a son, Noah Newman, and the couple adopted Sharon's daughter from her teenage pregnancy, Cassie, and lived as a loving, close-knit family.

In 2000, Sharon's ex-boyfriend, Matt, returned with a changed look due to plastic surgery and tried to rape her again. However, he met with a road accident. He then pulled off his ventilator to frame Nick for his death, landing Nick in prison briefly.

However, Sharon's pregnancy and her denial to abort pulled the couple apart despite the baby being stillborn. Affairs on both sides degenerated their marriage further towards a divorce. A depressed Sharon left town, leaving Nick with the children.

When back in Genoa City in 2004, Sharon confronted the criminal Cameron, as well as Cassie's father, Frank, from her past. Unable to seduce her, when Cameron attacked her, Sharon hit him with a bottle in self-defense and thought she had killed him. However, later, Frank was found dead in place of Cameron as the criminal escaped after killing and planting Frank's body in a sewer.

In 2005, The Young and the Restless found the couple in a challenging situation after a 14-year-old Cassie died from a car crash when driving a drunk Daniel Romalotti. As the depressed couple drifted apart, Nick had an affair with Phyllis, resulting in them having a daughter, Summer. Sharon divorced Nick and married Jack Abbott.

While Sharon's marriage with Jack fell apart, she and Nick came together many times despite Nick being married to Phyllis. In 2009, when her affair with Nick left Sharon pregnant, she claimed Jack as the father. However, the truth was revealed before the baby was swapped at birth with a dead baby.

Sharon unknowingly married the baby thief, Adam Newman, and later learned about her baby, Faith, being alive. She and Nick reunited with Faith and came closer. When she was charged with Skye's death, Sharon skipped town. She was believed dead, and a saddened Nick had total custody of Faith.

She returned to Genoa City, got acquittal, and got joint custody of Faith. She then married Victor Newman, took over the reins of Newman Enterprises, and burnt down Newman Ranch before being diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Her mental illness led to questionable actions, such as switching Summer's paternity test results and fighting Phyllis to let her fall down the stairs into a coma.

When Victor employed Cassie's twin, Mariah, to torment Sharon, she initially thought it was her mental disorder before the truth was discovered. Nick and Sharon's attempt at getting married again was stalled when Phyllis woke up from her coma and revealed everything about Sharon's evil actions.

The duo again reunited in a more mature and understanding phase of the relationship in 2018 on The Young and the Restless, aided by their two daughters, Mariah and Faith, and their son, Noah.

The Young and the Restless: The current plot dynamics between Nick and Sharon

In the recent The Young and the Restless storyline, Sharon's mental health has spiraled downhill since Cameron Kirsten resurfaced and kidnapped Faith. While the episode is over, Faith is safe, and Cameron is dead; Sharon sees an apparition of the dead assailant, and they even hold conversations.

While Sharon was under treatment for her bipolar disorder, Faith and Lucy's recent car crash brought back the trauma of Cassie's accidental death. As such, Sharon went off her medicines and started on a twisted revenge journey. She believes punishing Daniel will bring back her happiness and give closure to Cassie's death.

However, in her unstable condition, she reads more into situations and goes into imagination. One such The Young and the Restless episode occurred on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, when she thought Nick was gearing up to revive their romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Nick only asked her for a dinner date because he wanted to keep an eye on her progress.

Sharon, on the other hand, imagined them kissing and getting intimate. In reality, Nick bade her a quick goodbye with a hug. This hints at their relationship being poised at a precarious edge from where Sharon is likely to fall further into mental disaster. As such, Nick, who is taking an interest in her for the sake of her therapy, may not support her when he learns about her recent crimes and lies.

If Sharon is found guilty of Heather's death, she will be arrested. If not, she may end up in a mental facility. Either way, it seems unlikely for the duo to be together in a happy-ever-after scenario.

Catch Nick and Sharon in the upcoming episodes of The Young and the Restless on CBS on weekdays at 12.30 pm ET.
