Tragedy struck on New Year's Eve as Nicole and Daniel prepared for their Valentine's Day wedding on Days of Our Lives. That night, Eric Brady, who was drunk and under the influence, caused an accident on January 6, 2016, which resulted in Daniel's death and left others seriously injured.
The accident left Nicole shattered, still trying to come to terms with the sudden loss of her fiancé. Daniel's wife, Maggie Horton, had to make that tough call of donating Daniel's heart to Brady Black, also a victim of the crash. Eric's involvement in the accident set him and Nicole at odds with each other. She didn't waste any words on telling him how much she hated him for taking Daniel's life.
Eric went to prison, but his repentance could never heal the wounds of the people involved. Nicole found some comfort in the thought that Daniel's heart was still beating inside of Brady and, although bittersweet, so was the love she lost. Even in death, Daniel lived on.
Nicole was shocked to discover that Chloe conceived the couple's child with the couple's last remaining embryo. Chloe delivered a baby girl, Holly Jonas, and Nicole had a piece of Daniel to physically cling onto. Years later, Nicole has caught glimpses of Daniel's spirit from time to time.
