Holly Sutton-Scorpio is an intriguing character on General Hospital, one of the longest-running American daily soaps, airing on ABC since 1963. The soap's storyline involves interaction between staff and patients of the titular medical facility with resident families of mobsters and law enforcers of the fictional town of Port Charles.
Holly Sutton, played by Emma Samms since the character's inception, has been intermittently part of General Hospital since 1982. Introduced as a fraudster, she later on worked in collaboration with WBS and law enforcers. However, the enigmatic personality keeps viewers guessing about which side of the law she is in.
September 2024 saw Samms' Holly back in town after helping Anna Devane and Jason Morgan rescue Lucky Spencer. However, she has stolen diamonds from the mobster, Sidwell, and will be the cause of more criminal activity in Port Charles. As such, the original Holly is back in the soap's current plot.

Emma Samms made her appearance on General Hospital, as Holly on July 1, 1982, when she lured Luke Spencer into a one-night intimacy at a camping trip during one of her scamming missions. While she admitted being a grifter to an upset Luke, the Spencer man went to rescue her after she was kidnapped.
Unwilling to forgive the deception, Luke went to the mountains, had an avalanche accident, and was presumed dead while Holly found herself pregnant. Luke's best friend, Robert Scorpio, offered to marry her and raise the baby.
While Holly suffered a miscarriage, Luke returned and Holly, Luke, and Robert got caught up in a love triangle. Later Holly and Robert became one of the loved couples on the show while Luke married Laura. However, Anna Devane's arrival in town challenged Holly's happy marriage as Anna was Robert's ex-spouse. Although Anna introduced Robert to their daughter, Robin, Holly and Robert moved to Australia.
Rumored to have died in a plane crash, Holly returned to the General Hospital storyline in 1992. Robert left to look for kidnapped Anna leaving Robin in Holly's care. Anna and Robert were presumed killed and Holly moved on with Bill Eckert before leaving town again.
She was seen in Port Charles intermittently between 2006 and 2020. Between this time, she revealed that she was Ethan Lovett's mother and Luke was Ethan's father. She collaborated with Luke and Laura when Lucky was kidnapped in 2015 and admitted that Ethan was kidnapped too. After a messy fight, she managed to bring Ethan home. However, she remained kidnapped for a long time.
October 2022 saw Holly escape her kidnapper Victor Cassadine and arrive at Port Charles on a mission. Instructed by Victor, Holly tried to get the diamond necklace but got burned in a fire. In April 2023, Holly, along with Anna, Robert, and other friends, dispelled Victor's scheme of biological warfare as WSB destroyed the pathogen along with the perpetrators.
As she and Robert grew romantically apart, she left Robert with his newfound love, Diane, while Holly went abroad to help Ethan.
What are Holly's current plot dynamics on General Hospital?
September 2024 found Holly in Africa, at the same location where mobster Sidwell was holding Lucky. As Anna Devane and Jason Morgan arrived to get Lucky, Holly played along to help release Lucky and take him home. While escaping she stole a bag of diamonds from Sidwell.
Back in Port Charles, Holly denied any knowledge about Sidwell's location or the stolen goods when WBS's Brennan asked her. Yet she was seen asking Sonny to help transport the diamonds to the location of her choice. If Sidwell lands in Port Charles for the stolen diamonds and hurts the residents, Holly would be responsible for the problem.
On the other hand, Holly met Sasha Gilmore as the audience learned that she was Sasha's mother. Moreover, she told her that Sasha was Robert's daughter and must break up her affair with her cousin, Cody Bell. When she disclosed the same to Robert, the latter teamed up with his newly-found daughter for a DNA test.
