Journey of Stefano DiMera on Days of Our Lives
Stefano DiMera was considered the central villain of Days of Our Lives. He was also known as “The Phoenix” because of his comeback from the dead multiple times, which led the fans and the people of Salem in shock and tension about his existence.
Stefano’s journey on the show has been full of intricate plans, many resurrections, and a quest for power that often came at the cost of the happiness and wealth of several beloved characters in Salem.
Stefano arrived in Salem with his son Tony DiMera to scheme against the people of the town. He soon became a powerful enemy of Roman Brady and shared tricky dynamics with him.
He soon became inclined to Dr. Marlena Evans, and this interest soon turned into obsessions, which led him to kidnapping Marlena and attacking her lover John Black. Stefano became a villain slowly and planted schemes like blaming Hope Brady for murder, kidnapping Roman’s children, and turning people into killers.
Even if it looked like he had died, Stefano has returned every time to haunt everyone with his existence. His evil tactics went worse during the 1990s when he tried to trick Hope Brady into believing that she was the mob Princess Gina, and manipulated Marlena into believing that a devil possessed her.
He had always attempted to control and dominate people around him so that they could be an asset to his bigger plans. He hired people who looked like his targets to achieve his goals and brainwashed people by planting a microchip in their brains.
Stefano’s ultimate goal for doing all the awful deeds was to destroy the Brady and the Black family, and especially Marlena, who once he wanted for himself.
During his return between 2000 and 2010, Stefano kept creating trouble for others to save his life and find a cure for his brain tumor. He kidnapped people, asked EJ to impregnate Sami Brady so that he could use her fetus stem cells for his cure, and pretended to be dead only to come back to life.
Even when it looked like he had died in 2016, Stefano’s influence remained the same as in 2020, Dr. Rolf implanted Stefano’s consciousness into Steve Johnson's body with the help of a microchip, and when Chad and Tony destroyed that chip, Stefano’s character ultimately departed Days of Our Lives.
