Traci's character on The Young and the Restless has changed throughout turbulent relationships, familial crises, and poignant moments, all of which have been portrayed by Beth Maitland since 1982.
The Abbott scion’s path has resonated with both new and old fans, from her early days, defined by relationships with Danny Romalotti and marriages to Brad Carlton, to her frequent appearances since 2006.
Traci's most recent stint on the show in February 2024 saw her navigate the complexities of her sister Ashley's dynamic with Tucker alongside Jack and Diane, offering a glimpse into her enduring role within the Abbott family saga.
Who is Traci Abbott on The Young and the Restless?
The Young and the Restless's Traci Ann Abbott, played by Beth Maitland, is the youngest daughter of cosmetics tycoon John Abbott and his first wife, Dina Mergeron.
She is Jack Abbott’s sister, half-sister to Ashley Abbott and Billy Abbott, and godmother to Charlie and Mattie Ashby, Lily and Cane's children. Being the most emotional of her siblings, Traci battled bulimia and low self-esteem growing up.
She was insecure and envious of her glamorous sister, Ashley. She had a strong relationship with her brother Jack and often turned to him or their father, John Abbott, for support. Traci was twice married to Brad Carlton and had a daughter, Colleen Carlton, whose heart was donated to Victor Newman after her death.
Her second marriage to Brad fell apart due to the latter’s psychotic ex-wife. Eventually, they divorced, and Traci moved to New York City with her third husband, Steve Connolly, where she pursued a successful career as an author.
Traci and the Abbott family
Traci has since returned to Genoa City multiple times for significant family events, including her father's hospitalization and subsequent death, her daughter Colleen's demise, and her brother Jack's various trials and tribulations.
She also supported Jack during his paralysis and relationship struggles. Traci briefly returned in 2010 to comfort Ashley and was asked to be Lily Winters' twins' godmother.
She also returned in 2012 after Jack was shot, standing vigil with Ashley and Nikki during his surgery. Throughout her appearances, Traci remained a supportive and integral part of the Abbott family, often offering guidance and comfort to her siblings during difficult times.
Recent appearance on The Young and the Restless
While Traci Abbott’s appearances on The Young and the Restless are infrequent, she did attend a family meeting at the Abbott mansion earlier this year in February, along with Jack and Diane, to discuss Ashley's situation.
Ashley wondered if it was an intervention when she arrived and if Traci had told them about Tucker bribing the waiter in Paris. Jack explained that Traci spoke to the rest of the wait staff, who couldn't recall Tucker being physically violent.
Ashley was furious, believing Tucker had bribed the entire staff. When Traci entered, Ashley confronted her about going behind her back. Traci explained that she thought it would be better for Ashley to hear the truth amidst family. Ashley felt betrayed and accused her family of doubting her.
Despite Ashley's protests, Jack and the others believed they needed to uncover the truth to prevent Tucker from using it against her.
Diane questioned the effectiveness of their approach, suggesting it only made matters worse for Ashley. Jack decided they should give Ashley some space, while Traci believed uncovering the truth was the only way to help her sister move on from Tucker's manipulation.
