The episode depicting Cassie's death aired in May 2005. It covered Cassie's struggles to fit in with an older crowd of people, including Daniel Romalotti, Lily Winters, Devon Hamilton, Colleen Carlton, and Sierra Hoffman.

On the night of her death, Cassie lied to her parents, Sharon Collins and Nick Newman, about going to the movies while she secretly attended a party.

When she comes across Daniel, who's passed out drunk, she tries driving him over to the Newman ranch, only to get into a car crash. She and Daniel are rushed to the hospital, and they initially end up forgetting the cause of the crash, leading people to assume that Daniel caused the crash while driving intoxicated.

In her dying moments, she tries to tell Daniel the truth, only to collapse at Crimson Lights where Nick finds her, and she dies on the hospital bed with her parents, Nick and Sharon, by her side.

Since her death, Cassie has continued to make appearances in The Young and the Restless in flashbacks and the imaginations of Nick and Sharon. When Sharon was carrying Nick's baby in 2009, she appeared in one of her dreams.

She made some reappearances throughout 2013 and 2014, when her actor, Camryn Grimes, returned to play the role of her long-lost twin sister, Mariah Copeland. Cassie has since appeared in a few brief appearances in February 2020, December 2021, and March 2024.

Cassie Newman was introduced as the biological daughter of Sharon Newman and Frank Barritt. She was originally adopted by Alice Johnson but later found by Sharon's friend, Grace Turner. Grace tried to keep Cassie to herself before Sharon found out about it and retook custody of her, raising her along with her husband, Nick Newman.

Cassie Newman has been played by Camryn Grimes throughout all her appearances in The Young and the Restless since 1997. In 2000, Camryn won the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Younger Actress in a drama series, when she was only 10 years old.

Camryn was originally shocked at the decision to kill Cassie off but eventually conceded that if it was meant to happen, it was meant to happen.
