Sam McCall on the ABC soap opera General Hospital has been played by Kelly Monaco since the character was introduced on the show in 2003. Sam is a regular character on the daytime television show, first aired on October 1, 2003. During this journey on GH, Lindsay Hartley has filled in for Monaco several times in 2020, 2022, and 2024, for brief periods.
Sam McCall on General Hospital is the daughter of mob boss Julian Jerome (played by William deVry) and attorney Alexis Davis (played by Nancy Lee Grahn), who arrived in Port Charles to destroy the five lucky cards of the “Dead Man’s Hand.” Sam has recently been living with Dante (her lover) and her children, at penthouse 2 in Port Charles.
Earlier on General Hospital in January 2024, Lindsay was last scene playing Sam as Monaco needed a short break due to medical reasons. And within a few months in August 2024, the show has again swapped out Monaco with Lindsay. However, the reason has yet to be officially confirmed.

Journey of Sam McCall on General Hospital
Sam McCall, played by Kelly Monaco, has been a central character on General Hospital since 2003. She was first shown as a con artist with a rough past and soon got involved with the most important people in Port Charles.
In the beginning, she had a turbulent relationship with Jasper "Jax" Jacks, a brief affair with Sonny Corinthos, and a broken marriage with Jason Morgan. Sam's relationship with Jason has been a central part of her storyline, as the two characters had a strong yet difficult relationship.
They faced many challenges, from Jason claiming Sam's unborn child as his own to protect Sonny's family, to their plan to raise their stillborn daughter together. Their connection was often tested by outside dangers like the villainous Manny Ruiz or personal issues such as Sam's one-night stand with Ric Lansing.
Even after all these difficulties, Jason and Sam got married, however, their joy didn't last long. Franco's obsession with Jason, resulted in Sam going through the loss of their son, Daniel. When Jason seemed to die, Sam was very sad, but she stayed strong for her son.
After the presumed death of Jason Morgan, Sam slowly moved on in her life with Silas Clay and later with, Patrick Drake. However, both relationships didn’t last long as Sam soon faced a shocking turn when Jason arrived back in Port Charles. It was then discovered that he was actually Drew Cain, Jason's twin brother.
Ultimately, things sorted when she finally got back with Jason but again the joy didn’t last long because of the growing influence of the Dawn of Day cult and the dangers brought by its leader, Shiloh.
Sam and Jason’s relationship finally ended due to concerns about the safety of their children and the legal repercussions it could have on their family if Sam got in touch with Jason. Sam is now with Dante Falconeri who was once her working partner.
During her time in Port Charles, Sam McCall has shown that she is strong and clever, by always finding a way to deal with her problems.
