Frankie was introduced to Salem in 1986 when he and his brother Max were taken in by Shawn and Caroline Brady. Frankie developed feelings for Jennifer Horton in high school when the two became close friends. Jennifer eventually broke up with her then-boyfriend Glenn and began dating Frankie after their high school ended.

However, the relationship did not last long after Jennifer found out that her mother Laura was in a mental facility. Later, it was revealed that Max was not Frankie's biological brother but the son of a man named Trent. After this revelation, Frankie got accepted to Columbia University and moved away from Salem in 1988.

He returned to town in 1990 and developed a friendship with Jennifer. He then met Eve Donovan, who started to have feelings for him but was jealous of Jennifer. Frankie assured her that he was only friends with Jennifer and started dating Eve. The couple moved to Africa in 1991.

Frankie briefly returned to Salem in 2005, when he moved into an apartment with Max. He returned without Eve and seemed to be falling for Jennifer again. But, Jennifer ended up marrying Jack Devereaux and moving to London. After this development, Frankie left Salem and accepted a job at a law firm in Washington D.C.
