Eric Roberts played attorney Vance Abrams on The Young and the Restless from July 2010 to April 2011. He was brought in by Adam Newman's then-wife, Skye, to fight Adam's charges in the Richard Hightower death case.
While his stay was initially meant to last about a month, Eric stayed longer, for just under a year, and was shown handling other legal cases in Genoa City.
Vance's past was hinted at as that of a ruthless and unscrupulous lawyer who had represented the notorious Adam Wilson in his prison break and faked death. During his time in town, Vance handled two other major cases besides Adam's charges: the Newman siblings suing Victor and Sharon's murder trial.
After Sharon's case, Vance was not seen again in Genoa City, and Eric Roberts has not returned to The Young and the Restless since 2011.
The Young and the Restless: Eric Roberts played attorney Vance Abrams
The sharp and efficient attorney Vance Abrams was initially played by John Sloman when introduced to The Young and the Restless. However, Eric Roberts soon replaced Sloman as the lawyer representing Adam Newman in the Richard Hightower murder case.
Vance was appointed by Skye, who was married to Adam at the time. While Vance suggested that Sharon be questioned and exposed, Adam remained firmly against harming Sharon, played by Sharon Case.
Learning about Adam's love for Sharon, Skye wanted Vance to frame her. She implied that, since she was paying for the lawyer's services, she had a say in how the case should proceed. However, Adam refused to cooperate if Vance questioned Sharon.
With fierce effort, Vance managed to free Adam, as the court found the case against him weak and dismissed the charges. While a vindictive Skye later wanted to testify against Adam, he went on to apologize to Ashley Abbott and Sharon for exposing their truths. Whenever Adam was in danger from others, Vance turned protective, even when he was no longer being paid for his services.
Vance's second case in The Young and the Restless storyline was the Newman case when Abby Newman sued Victor for inappropriately handling her funds. While Victor appointed Michael Baldwin to represent Newman Enterprises, Victoria joined Abby’s side.
Here Adam testified in favor of Victor claiming that Victor was innocent of counterfeiting papers which he had forged. However, Vance made Neil disprove him. On the other side, Nick joined his siblings against his father after learning about his involvement with Skye.
The court ruled against Victor and Vance was happy to bring the news to the business magnate while taking over the company's financial reports. However, Baldwin arrived to protect Victor's side.
His third major case on The Young and the Restless was Skye’s missing-person case, which later grew larger. Initially, Adam was accused when Skye disappeared, but Sharon managed to trace her to Hawaii, where she was hidden by Victor. This revelation helped exonerate Adam. However, Skye fell into a volcano and died, making Sharon the prime suspect.
Despite Vance's best tactics, all evidence pointed towards Sharon and she was found guilty. Although with Adam's help, Sharon escaped from prison and was presumed dead, Vance was no longer involved with Genoa City after losing Sharon's trial. After this Eric Roberts exited his recurring role on The Young and the Restless.
