Shemar Moore has been a beloved actor on many CBS daily soaps. He was in Criminal Minds from 2005 to 2016 and played the lead in S.W.A.T. from 2017 to date. However, Shemar is perhaps most popular for portraying Malcolm Winters in The Young and the Restless, also known as Y&R.
He debuted in 1994 and continued till 2002. The actor kept his association with The Young and the Restless as he made guest appearances throughout 2004, 2005, 2014, 2019, and most recently in 2023 on the show’s 50th anniversary.
American actor and singer Darius McCrary portrayed Malcolm from 2009 to 2011, but Shemar is seen in Y&R occasionally as per the script's need.
Shemar's take on returning to The Young and the Restless
In an interview with TV Insider on April 10, 2024, when asked whether he would like to return to The Young and the Restless, the actor replied:
"If The Young and the Restless called me today, I would go."
Moore added that he would do the same for his other shows and said:
“Because you never forget where you came from. It sounds cliche and maybe cheesy, but it’s also true.”

Malcolm's Story Arc
The start: 1994–2002 and 2004–05
Malcolm Winters entered Genoa City in 1994. He came to the city intending to reconcile with his half-brother, Neil Winters. Neil has no desire to take his troublesome brother under his wing.
With the assistance of Blade, Malcolm rises to be a famous photographer in the city. He develops a crush on Neil’s wife, Drucilla Barber. One day Drucilla takes a high dose of cold medicine and becomes sedated. When Malcolm comes to her bedroom, she mistakes him for Neil. Even though Malcolm realizes that Drucilla is mistaken, he proceeds to have s*x with her.
The following day, Malcolm realizes his mistake and confesses to Olivia, Drucilla's sister. Nine months later, Drucilla gives birth to Lily Winters and claims that Neil is the father. Drucilla forgives Malcolm, and Olivia helps him get over it by fixing him up with Keesha, whom he marries. Keesha later dies of AIDS. Malcolm eventually dates Olivia, and the two wed in 1997 but the marriage fails when Olivia gets jealous of Malcolm’s former girlfriend.
A big turn of the show comes when Neil and Malcolm fight to win over Alex Perez, who is a lawyer. Several weeks later, Malcolm asks Alex out on a date, and they get engaged, but she also grows attracted to Neil. While on a business trip to Kenya, Malcolm accidentally eavesdrops on Alex and learns that she has feelings for Neil. He storms off in disgust.
During a car ride, Malcolm's car falls off a bridge and gets washed away. He is presumed dead. Two years later, Malcolm returns to Genoa City. He is furious at Neil, as he thinks the man never bothered to look for him, in the bid to get Alex. Nonetheless, the two brothers sort out their differences.
Malcolm calls for a DNA test for Lily to find out if he is her biological father. After learning that Lily is his daughter, he keeps it a secret and moves away from the town.
