The Young and the Restless, an American soap opera, debuted in March 1973. Initially, it was centered around the Brooks and Foster families. However, over the years, the focus shifted to various other influential families.
This shift introduced many recurring characters, one of them being Brock Reynolds. Brock Reynolds was introduced on the soap opera in 1974, making him one of the earliest characters.
Brock, portrayed by Beau Kazer, is the son of Katherine and Gary Reynolds and has a daughter named Mackenzie Browning. He lovingly referred to his mother as "The Duchess."
Who was Brock on The Young and the Restless?
Brock's relationship with his mother became strained after the death of his father, as she remarried Phillips Chancellor II. He disobeyed his mother and often disappeared. Brock struggled with alcoholism which further strained his relationship with Katherine.
However, when Brock returned in 1974, he was a different person. He had become a lawyer who devoted his time to helping people in need. Brock found that Katherine's alcoholism had worsened and encouraged her to seek help for the same.
During his time in India, he had a relationship with Amanda Browning, which resulted in the birth of his daughter, Mackenzie. Katherine revealed to Brock that Mackenzie was his daughter, as Brock had been unaware of her existence until then.
Although he was absent throughout her childhood, the father and daughter eventually developed a relationship. Brock and Mackenzie lived with Katherine for some time, but he later left again for India. Brock remained as a guiding figure, supporting his daughter.
Brock's Life in Genoa City The Young and the Restless
Brock became entangled in the feud between Jill Abbott and Katherine when Katherine instigated him against Jill. Katherine convinced Brock to pursue Jill and marry her. Jill was Katherine's paid companion, who went on to have an affair with Phillip.
Brock married Jill, but the marriage was short-lived as Jill revealed that she was pregnant with Phillip's child. Katherine wanted to buy Jill's child. Brock tried to talk Katherine out of it but failed.
Katherine fought a legal battle to cut the child off from Phillips's inheritance. This time Brock chose to stay on Jill's side and testified on her behalf. But Katherine won the case. Though he had to pick sides, he remained supportive of both women.
Brock rescued his mother by uncovering Clint Radison's plot. Clint kidnapped Katherine and used Marge, a doppelganger to impersonate her with the motive of securing Katherine's wealth. Brock worked with an attorney, Mitchell Sherman, to recuse both Katherine and their maid, Esther Valentine from captivity.
Brock's return to Genoa City on The Young and the Restless
Brock left Genoa City but made periodic visits over the years. In 1977, he returned to defend Snapper Foster, who was facing charges of euthanasia of his father, Bill Foster. He also supported Snapper and his partner, Chris Foster, in the custody battle of their daughter, Karen Becker. These appearances highlighted his legal expertise.
In 2009, Brock returned to officiate his mother, Katherine's wedding to Patrick Murphy and in 2010 to officiate his daughter, Mackenzie's wedding to J.T. Hellstrom.
Brock again returned to Genoa City when Katherine suffered a stroke to offer support to the family. In 2013, after Katherine passed, he attended her funeral where he delivered a eulogy in her honor. Katherine left one-quarter of her estate to Brock in her will.
Brock last appeared on The Young and the Restless in 2013. The actor, who played Brock, Beau Kazer passed away in 2014 and the show decided not to recast the role.
