CBS is all set to release its new soap called Beyond The Gates in late February 2025. Beyond the Gates was created by Michele Van Jean and is a story that revolves around an affluent African-American family who live inside Fairmont Estates in Maryland, Washington DC. The main family on the show is the Dupree family and the matriarch and patriarch are Anita Dupree and Vernon Dupree.
Veteran actor Clifton Davis joined the cast and crew of Beyond The Gates as Vernon Dupree, who is the head of the family. Vernon is a retired senator working for the United States of America and also a known figure in the civil rights movement.
Vernon is married to Anita Dupree, played by Tamara Tunie. The couple have two daughters together, Dani Dupree and doctor Nicole Dupree. On the show, the Dupree family are considered to be black royalty and live lavishly in their estate.

Actor Clifton Davis was born on October 4, 1945, in Chicago Illinois, and was raised as a child in New York. He grew up being extremely interested in the performing arts and had a penchant for music as a kid. He grew up and attended Oakwood University and got his Bachelor's degree in Theology. He later also went to Andrews University and got his Master's in Divinity.
Davis started his career as a songwriter and singer and his first song that became famous was Never Can Say Goodbye, sung by The Jackson 5 in 1971 and topped all charts. Davis also worked for Broadway and made his debut in 1967 in the production of Hello, Dolly! alongside Cab Calloway and Pearl Bailey. He earned his first Tony nomination in 1972 after his work on the sets of Two Gentlemen of Verona, a musical.
Beyond The Gates star, Clifton Davis started off his acting career in 1974 when he was cast as Clifton Curtis on That's My Mama. He played the role of a barber who lived in Washington, DC, was navigating his life. He rose to prominence with this role and started acting more frequently in shows.
Davis's next big break was in NBC's Amen in 1986, where he portrayed the role of Reverend Ruben Gregory. Alongside his acting career, he continued his music career as well and also worked for churches and other religious programs. He was the host of TBN's Praise The Lord, which was a religious talk show, for many years.
Clifton Davis is a deeply religious man and has been a pastor from 1987 to 1989 in the Loma Linda University Seventh-day Adventist Church in Southern California. He hosted the popular television show called the Gospel Superfest from 2000 up until 2008.
Davis has starred in many films as well and his latest film released in 2022 was called We Are Gathered Here Today. In October 2024, CBS announced the release of their new soap opera and revealed that Davis had been cast as one of the central figures in the show, Vernon Dupree. The first episode of the show is set to premiere on February 24, 2025.
