Who is Elizabeth Webber on General Hospital? Everything you need to know

Elizabeth Webber or "Liz" is a character first introduced to General Hospital in 1997. She's been played by Rebecca Herbst in all her appearances with the exception of a brief period in 2011.

Elizabeth is the granddaughter of Steve Hardy and Audrey Hardy, two of the original General Hospital leads. Her character arc has been defined by her romance with Lucky Spencer, Jason Morgan, Ric Lansing, and Hamilton Finn.

She also followed in the footsteps of her grandmother in becoming a nurse at the titular General Hospital. When Elizabeth first crossed paths with Lucky, his affections were set on Sarah, though they two would grow closer after Elizabeth was r*ped.

The pair would eventually exchange private vows, but their relationship would break apart due to Lucky's apparent death.

This led to her bonding with Jason Morgan for emotional support. She'd also enter into a turbulent romance with Ric Lansing. Meanwhile, on the account of his return to Port Charles, it remains to be seen what happens when they reunite.

Elizabeth's romance with Lucky continued to face conflicts as General Hospital went on. Elizabeth broke up with Lucky after he was caught kissing her sister, Sarah.

She proceeded to get closer to Zander Smith after the two were locked in a crypt together, and dated Jason for a while, before getting close to Ric Lansing after meeting him at Luke's club in 2002, and the two grew closer while she worked as a waitress at Kelly's diner.

Elizabeth became pregnant with Ric's child, but she unfortunately had a miscarriage. She left Ric after he tried to steal Carly's baby by locking her in a panic room while she was still pregnant.

Elizabeth ended up having another child with Zander and managed to reconcile with Ric. However, the two would eventually divorce once more, and Zander's death in a shootout would leave her a single mother to the child, whom she named Cameron.

Elizabeth would go on to pursue a career as a nurse at the titular General Hospital and would get married to Lucky. The ensuing financial strain pushed her to become a surrogate mother for Jasper Jacks and Courtney Matthews, despite Lucky's objections.

This surrogacy ended in a miscarriage and Lucky went on to suffer an injury that got him addicted to painkillers. Liz then had an affair with Jason Morgan, which got her pregnant. Lucky believed he was the father of the child, named Jake, causing him to get clean and remarry Liz, only for the relationship to fall apart once more due to him discovering Jake's true father.

Jason Morgan didn't want to commit to raising a baby with Liz either, considering his own way of life too dangerous to involve the family in.

Later on in General Hospital, Elizabeth would have an affair with Lucky Spencer's half-brother, Nikolas Cassadine. She went on to have a pregnancy, which was tampered with by Helena Cassadine to make Nik appear to be the father.

The child, Aiden, was abducted by Franco, but eventually rescued by Lucky. She eventually figured out Lucky was Aiden's true father through a paternity test and initially kept this from him as she was grieving the loss of Jake in a hit-and-run. She would, however, eventually come clean to him in order to help him get his drinking problem under control.

Liz would eventually go on to become the head nurse at the titular General Hospital in order to honor Epiphany's last wish and would enter a romance with Hamilton Finn, going on a romantic trip to Vermont. Her son, Aiden, would eventually come out as gay, with Elizabeth giving him her blessing.

Upon Bobbie Spencer's death, Liz was among the people who mourned her and renamed the Kelly's diner, Bobbie's after its sign was damaged. She continued to look after Aiden, even as he dealt with bullying problems.

However, in June 2024, her relationship with Hamilton also ended. Currently, with Ric Lansing's return to Port Charles in August 2024, Elizabeth could possibly reconnect with her old flame or her story could take a new turn.
