More about Hope's mother Adelaide on Days of Our Lives
Hope was born to Doug Willaims and Adelaide Horton Williams in 1974. Actors Patricia Huston and Patricia Barry portrayed Adelaide at different times. However, Adelaide's back story revealed she was the eldest daughter of Alice and Tom Horton. She married Ben Olson in 1949 and proceeded to have two children from the marriage, Steven and Julie.
After Ben's death, Adelaide Horton returned to Salem and her daughter, Julie Olson, started an affair with a crook Doug Williams. In an attempt to break up her daughter's romance, Adelaide befriended Doug. Following an argument between the engaged couple, Julie walked out of the relationship.
Adelaide, who had fallen for Doug by that time, offered to marry him. In a convoluted love triangle, Adelaide became the wife of her daughter's fiancé. Her second marriage led to a pregnancy while being diagnosed with cancer. Adelaide pushed off her treatment till baby Hope was born.
Adelaide's treatment put her cancer in remission as she started caring for her newborn daughter. However, she died in June 1974 after throwing herself before an oncoming truck to save baby Hope's carriage from the accident. As a heartbroken Doug started raising Hope, Julie Olson returned to their lives.
Hope's half-sister, Julie, married her father and became her stepmother, while Hope was sent off to a boarding school. Growing up, Hope never knew her biological mother.
