Who was Johnny Wactor? LAPD releases new suspects photos involved in shooting General Hospital star

Johnny Wactor who used to play Brando Corbin on the ABC soap opera General Hospital was shot dead during an attempted robbery on May 25, 2024. The incident took place when Johnny was leaving from his work and saw three men trying to steal his car's catalytic converter. On confrontation, one of the men shot Johnny.

The Los Angeles Police Department has been over the case to catch the suspects responsible for the murder of the General Hospital star. It's been over two months since the incident took place and to catch the suspects the LAPD has requested the public to come forward if they can recognize any of the suspects.

On August 4, new surveillance images from the incident showing the suspected men, have been put out by the police. According to police, the suspect accused of shooting Johnny has a tattoo above the left eye and on the right cheek. All three accused ran away from the crime scene in a black Infiniti Q50 Sedan which was claimed to be stolen.

The fans and the show General Hospital mourned the loss of the actor and sought justice for him. After the unfortunate incident occurred the show shared a post on Instagram on May 27, 2024, that read:

“The entire General Hospital family is heartbroken to hear of Johnny Wactor’s untimely passing. He was truly one of a kind and a pleasure to work with each and every day. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time.”

John William Wactor III also known as Johnny Wactor was born on August 31, 1986, in Charleston, South Carolina, and died on May 25, 2024, in Los Angeles.

He was an American actor and was best known for his character Brando Corbin on the daytime show General Hospital. He remained a part of the show General Hospital as a recurring actor and appeared in over 164 episodes of the show.

Johnny had two siblings with whom he grew up in Summerville. He did his high schooling at Summerville High School in 2004, followed by his graduation from the College of Charleston with a B.Sc. in Business Administration and a B.A. in Spanish in May 2009.

Johnny Wactor was engaged to actress and director Tessa Farrell but they broke up in the late 2010s. Later he reportedly dated Kaitlin Sullivan but that relationship also didn’t last long.

Johnny started his acting career with the television series Army Wives in 2007 followed by multiple roles such as Shane Hudson in Hollywood Girls (2010-2016), and Johnny in Siberia (2013).

Johnny’s acting career in television series includes his appearances in over 20 shows including prominent shows like General Hospital, Criminal Minds, and Station 19. He has also played roles in movies like USS Indianapolis: Men of Courage (2016) as Connor, and Supercell (2023) as Martin.


What happened the night Johnny was killed?

Johnny Wactor was shot at the age of 37 in the 1200 block of Hope Street in downtown Los Angeles when he confronted three people who tried to steal his car’s catalytic converter.

According to his family, it was 3:30 am in the morning when Johnny left after his bartending shift. He apparently had a face-off with the accused, to save his female co-worker he came in between the shooter and her.

"They had a mask on, and they pulled out a gun," said Colin Flynn (Jonny’s friend) as per ABC News report on August 5.

Flynn further added:

“And from what I understand, Johnny literally stood in between himself and his colleague. And the shooter just pulled the trigger and ran away.”

On June 15, 2024, almost 3 weeks after the unfortunate incident, Wactor's funeral was held at the Summerville Baptist Church in Summerville, South Carolina.
