Mariah Copeland (played by Camryn Grimes) was first introduced on The Young and the Restless in 2014. At the time, the Newman Family was confused by her striking resemblance to Cassie Newman (also played by Camryn Grimes), who died when she was a teenager.
She was raised by Helen Copeland along with Ian Ward. However, it was revealed later that her biological parents are Frank Barritt and Sharon Newman. Mariah is one of the twin girls that Sharon Newman delivered.
Sharon became pregnant with Mariah when she was in a relationship with her high school boyfriend, Frank, in 1991. Sharon wasn't aware of Mariah's existence until she was introduced on The Young and the Restless in 2014.
Mariah's birth on The Young and the Restless
Frank Baritt was introduced on The Young and the Restless as Sharon Newman's boyfriend in high school. Sharon became pregnant during her brief relationship with Frank when she was 16. When Frank was told about the pregnancy, he refused to take responsibility as the father and distanced himself.
Sharon delivered the twins and gave Cassie up for adoption. But she wasn't aware of Mariah's existence. Helen Copeland, the nurse who delivered the twins of Sharon, abducted Mariah and raised her as her own.
Helen was a member of the cult, "The Path", led by Ian Ward.
Ian acted as Mariah's father figure. Helen often left Mariah under Ian's care. As she felt neglected by Helen, she resented her. Mariah adored Ian as she was mostly under his care and as he was the only constant family that she had as a child.
Frank initially had no relationship with either of the twins, but when he reappeared in the show in 2003, he tried to reconcile with Cassie. However, his unfortunate death put an end to that.
Given that Mariah's existence was only revealed years later, she never got to meet or build a relationship with her father, Frank. But she did get to form a bond with her mother, Shanon when the truth came to the surface.
How was Mariah's parentage revealed on The Young and The Restless?
Mariah moved to Genoa City on The Young and The Restless, following her ex Tyler Michaelson who became involved with Abby Newman.
She was then paid by Victor Newman to gaslight Sharon into thinking that she was hallucinating about her late daughter, Cassie, since she was Cassie's lookalike. Victor wanted to create a rift between Nick Newman and Sharon.
Nick exposed Mariah after he figured out that she was posing as Cassie to gaslight Sharon. They threatened to report her and forced her to leave the town but Mariah sought the help of Ian to get out of trouble.
Later, Mariah grew a relationship with Sharon, who invited her to stay with them. But she was later kicked out when Sharon found her trying to seduce Nick.
Mariah was then drugged by Ian, who attempted to marry her. She realized that Ian was as bad as everyone said he was.
Mariah was rescued by Nick and Sharon, who revealed to her the truth about her birth. It was revealed to her that she was stolen by Nurse Helen, who delivered the twins.
Mariah refused to forgive Sharon as she kicked her out of her house. Later, her marriage with Ian was annulled with their help.
Initially, it was hard for Mariah to accept Sharon as her mother, but she slowly began to build a relationship with her.
Mariah stood by Sharon when she battled Cancer and even posed as Cassie again to help her mother overcome her mental health struggles.
