Mariah Copeland landed on The Young and the Restless storyline in January 2014 as a lookalike of Cassie Newman. Portrayed by actor Camryn Grimes, Mariah sees her introduction to Genoa City creating more drama and confusion in the lives of the residents.
Actor Camryn had played the now-dead Cassie between 1997 and 2005 before the character met with a fatal car accident. However, since her return to the show as Mariah, Camryn holds a recurring role under contract.
Longtime viewers of The Young and the Restless may remember Cassie as Sharon's six-year-old lost child reunited with her mother. Cassie, who was dearly loved by her step-father, Nick, besides her mother, died on the show, leaving fans audience upset.
However, a decade later, Sharon started seeing her long-dead daughter talking to her, who was later revealed to be her estranged twin, Mariah.
The Young and the Restless: A quick history of Mariah on the soap
Played by Camryn Grimes, Mariah was introduced to The Young and the Restless as Cassie's lookalike and a small-time crook.
Raised in Portland, Mariah Copeland knew Helen as her mother and the evil fraud, Ian Ward, as a father figure. She followed her former fiance, Tyler Michaelson, as he tried to form a relationship with Abby Newman. The Cassie-doppelganger was soon hired by Victor to drive Sharon insane and break up Sharon and Nick's relationship.
Despite the truth getting exposed, the mother found a liking for her daughter's lookalike and helped her settle in Genoa City. She also pushed Nick to give the girl a job at his club. However, misunderstanding her acceptance, Mariah tried to seduce Nick, leading to Sharon turning her out of the house.
While Ian abducted her and forced her into marriage, Nick learned that she was really Sharon's daughter and Cassie's twin, stolen at birth by nurse Helen. They rescued her as her marriage to Ian was annulled, and Ian was arrested. However, accepting Sharon as her mother was difficult for Mariah.
The Young and the Restless viewers saw Mariah try out many romantic interests, including Kevin, Austin, Devon and Tessa. Among them, Austin was murdered, while Devon married Hilary. While she shared a dependable friendship with Kevin, Mariah finally found her true love with Tessa.
With Sharon, her relationship improved as she played the supportive daughter as Sharon battled breast cancer. She also urged her mother to be honest with Dylan about Christian Newman. She was Abby's maid-of-honor at Abby's wedding with Chance and also the surrogate for their baby, Dominic.
May 2022 on The Young and the Restless saw Mariah and Tessa put aside all their differences and get married. Moreover, they adopted a girl and named her Aria Porter Copeland. However, Aria was discovered to have a hearing impairment and needed to be fitted with a hearing aid.
Soon Mariah left her job at Jabot to work with her mother at SNA Media. In 2024, Sharon named her company Cassidy First Technology as a tribute to Cassie. As of now, on The Young and the Restless, Mariah works for her mother's company. She was also seen befriending Claire Grace-Howard, as they share similar afterbirth histories.
