General Hospital (GH) is a prominent American daytime soap opera that premiered on April 1, 1963, on ABC. It is the longest-running American soap opera currently in production, and it takes place in the fictional town of Port Charles, New York.

Frank and Doris Hursley created the show, which originally focused on hospital life. It gradually grew from a 30-minute format to a full hour in 1978. On General Hospital, Chloe Lanier played the complicated and vindictive character Nelle Benson.

Nelle was first presented as a teacher who had ties to Carly Corinthos, but her sinister intentions caused her to control and mislead others. It was discovered that she had a problematic history and was the biological daughter of Nina Reeves and Dr. Silas Clay.

More about Nelle Benson

Nelle Benson, played by Chloe Lanier, was an intriguing and tormented character in General Hospital. Nelle was introduced in 2016 as a loving school teacher with a strange link to Carly Corinthos, having given a kidney to save Carly's daughter, Josslyn. Her genuine motives, however, were considerably darker: she desired vengeance against Carly, blaming her for the anguish she had experienced as a youngster.

From drugging Sonny Corinthos to staging an affair to accusing Carly of attempted murder, Nelle's plots swiftly got out of hand. She was also manipulative in her relationship with Michael Corinthos, with whom she had a son named Wiley. In an unexpected turn of events, Nelle deceived Michael into thinking their kid had died by exchanging her living child for a deceased one. This information revealed her hazardous inclinations and sparked a heated custody dispute.

Her evil acts conceal a terrible history. Nelle was revealed to be the abducted biological daughter of Nina Reeves and Dr. Silas Clay, whom Frank Benson raised. Finding out she had a twin sister, Willow Tait, provided emotional depth to her narrative.

Nelle's tale appeared to come to an end in 2020, following a cliffside fight with Carly. Despite being considered deceased, her fleeting appearances in 2022 left admirers wondering what became of her.

Cast of General Hospital

Since its debut in 1963, the General Hospital cast has been instrumental in making the show's plots come to life. Emily McLaughlin as Nurse Jessie Brewer and John Beradino as Dr. Steve Hardy were part of the original cast. These personalities created the foundation for the series' numerous plots and made the hospital setting the main emphasis. Early on, Rachel Ames, who played Audrey Hardy, also joined, helping to establish the show.

Over the years, the cast expanded to include several prominent actors who played memorable characters. Genie Francis' performance as Laura Spencer, coupled with Anthony Geary's portrayal of Luke Spencer, became important to the program. They played key roles in some of the series' most memorable scenes.

Other notable cast members include Maurice Benard as Sonny Corinthos and Laura Wright as Carly Corinthos, who have been involved in several interconnected stories. Longtime cast members, such as Kin Shriner, who portrays Scotty Baldwin, have added stability and complexity to the show's history.

Characters from a younger generation are portrayed by actors such as Eden McCoy as Josslyn Jacks and Nicholas Chavez as Spencer Cassadine, who help the show's developing plots. With a multigenerational ensemble, the cast continues to play a crucial role in the narrative, establishing links between more recent arrivals to the General Hospital world and more established characters.
