Actor Stuart Damon was part of the General Hospital storyline between 1977 and 2014. He was initially fired in 2007 when his character was killed off but he appeared as a guest star throughout 2014. He played the character of Dr. Alan Quartermaine.

Stuart's Alan Quartermaine had many romantic alliances including Rae Cummings, Monica Vard Quartermaine, Susan Moore, Lucy Coe and Rhonda Wexler. He helped save many lives including Tony Jones, Edward Quartermaine and Monica Quartermaine.

He saved Tony Jones after Tony was injured in a car accident. Alan's quick action and medical expertise were critical in stabilizing Tony and ensuring he received the necessary care. Additionally, Alan was instrumental in saving his father, Edward Quartermaine, who had major health crises including a few heart attacks. Alan's professional skills and personal dedication helped Edward recover on multiple occasions.

As both a doctor and her husband, Alan played a pivotal role in Monica's battles with breast cancer. He supported her through surgeries and treatments, showcasing his commitment to her well-being despite their tumultuous relationship.

Alan Quartermaine was the lead character from 1977 to 2007; he has made semi-regular appearances since then. He is an integral part of the wealthy family known as the Quartermaines. Alan was an outstanding cardiologist at General Hospital in Port Charles, New York.

His character was built on professional commitment, personal charm, and complex relationships. He had one tempestuous marriage with Monica Bard Quartermaine. Throughout the entire run of the show, Alan had several dramatic story arcs. In the 1980s, he enjoyed a very public love affair with Susan Moore, from which came his son Jason.

This affair strained his marriage with Monica and resulted in several custody battles. Alan's prescription pill addiction in the 1990s became another major storyline. It made him come off even more vulnerable and with struggles at work and personally.

Alan was also involved in a major murder mystery when it was believed he had been killed. Alan ultimately died of a heart attack in 2007, but his spirit remained on GH, often visiting to offer advice and reminisce about his many ups and downs.

Stuart Damon was an American actor, best known for his portrayal of Dr. Alan Quartermaine on the American soap opera General Hospital. Damon's earliest acting career was on the stage, and he first gained national attention while playing the role of Prince Charming in the 1965 television production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella.

This role made him a darling of his audiences as he portrayed Alan Quartermaine for over three decades from 1977 until 2007. In 1999, he even won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for the performance.

Along with General Hospital, he appeared in numerous television series and movies, but undeniably, the role of Alan Quartermaine was his biggest contribution to soap operas.

Stuart Damon died on June 29, 2021, at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of his great performances and his big contribution to daytime television.
